Why is everybody afraid of a digital future? Even the Wii store is still open for redownloads and that thing is only a year younger then when Steam started doing third-party games. Everything just works, has worked for almost two decades, and will continue to work fine.

because we're still stuck under capitalism, that's why.

only people on consoles are worried because it means the end of the used game market.

it's a damn miracle that store is still up at all. i remember a little while ago all the remaining severs just suddenly went offline for a few days with no word from nintendo. everyone just assumed it was gone for good until it randomly came back again. it's so werid.

You pay for convenience with ownership. Going around the problem and bypassing DRM solutions is one way to regain that privilege but you shouldn't have to do it for products you already paid ( yes I said products, not licenses or "services" )
One step in right direction Steam could make is to start giving devs an option and remind them that they could just ship a version that has no DRM and can be preserved on disk.

I don't care about digital, but Steam doesn't let me back up installers like GoG does, so for me GoG is better.
I don't really care about "physical" since storing data on external hardrives is the same, and frankly better than disks.

Digital on console is total cancer that's why. It's not the same as PC where it's just convenience. On console you are giving up the only bit of control you have over the games you bought to corporations who horrid track records.
That said, most people championing physical don't actually care about having any real control or ownership over their games, they just want to see it lined up on their shelf.
