The Middle East gets nuked out of existence after a war over oil and the economy collapses afterwards, that's really all we know about what happened in Europe aside from the general "everyone ran out of gas and the Soviet Union came to terms with the US (presumably because of reforms)" so history took a radically different path. Australia has almost zero plot references aside from one woman in Fallout 4 having an Australian accent due to a casting error, and Japan literally goes unmentioned, although we can assume that because there are no foreign cars in the games and microelectronics never happened that Japan did not get a postwar miracle.

The only other info that seems relevant is a guy in Fallout 3's Point Lookout DLC explicitly saying he is from England, post-Great War England, so presumably they didn't get completely wiped off the map

I'm making a Fallout 2 mod set in Australia and I like how there's no lore, even from nuslop. It gives me freedom to make what I want. In my lore the US learned from the resistance after annexing Canada and used a cooperative but still exploitative approach with Australia pre-war. The deal was that the US would protect Australia from China and get access to Australia's remaining coal and uranium reserves after the war was won. But since the world got nuked the resources are still sitting under the ground, which influences the plot during the game.

The funniest thing about "Vault-Tec initiated the nuclear apocalypse" is the game it most directly contradicts is Fallout 76, since Reclamation day makes no sense now. According to the Amazon show, Vault-Tec explicitly plans on wiping the surface clean before having their vault dwellers and frozen personnel start over from scratch.
There would be no point in Vault-Tec literally having a vault designed to have specialists trained to help rebuild civilization with the survivors.
Not to mention the Amazon show implies the reason Vault-Tec is apparently somehow still around (and has access to nukes) but isn't active is they don't think the earth is ready to take over yet.

A 10mm Pistol will outperform a Laser Pistol against soft targets (leather and unarmored) with JHP rounds. Laser is also terrible against Metal Armor, making the 10mm Pistol a better option yet again.
If you want useful energy weapons you either have to loot at Fallout 2 for lasers (the upgraded (non-civilian) pistol is very good) or use the Plasma pistol (a glock, much rarer and basically only found in military caches).

In fairness, not that they deserve any, they did keep working on FO76 and after a year or so it became a decent game, but maybe that is because I got it on sale and played with friends.
The base building was a fun aspect, and seeing people use the terrain to create unique bases was neat. One guy plugged up a whole in a cliff with walls like a mini vault door, and I made a bridge house for an easier route across a dangerous area.
They still shouldn't have released it the way they did, but at least they didn't just drop it after a month and run with the money.
