Kojima insists that Metal Gear is somehow above the nuclear triad despite the fact that other methods of nukes are just as deployable around the world in a variety of conditions. Arsenal Gear is the only true solution to nuclear warfare given that it has the ability to take control of nuclear systems, and Arsenal Gear is not even a fucking infantry tank any more, it's the equivalent of an aircraft carrier for the infantry tanks.

Battleships didn't fall to the submarine, they were made obsolete by the airplane / carrier and their role of standoff bombardment was overtaken by the missile cruiser.

Just remember the real point of Pearl Harbor was to sink the carriers and damage the fuel supply.

Even in WW2 it was known that carriers were the new threat in the pacific.

1) Eliminating the need for an ICBM's thruster rocket by shooting the warhead itself via railgun (don't worry about the logic). This also shortens the reaction time for deploying defense systems, since it's not a slow missile soaring in an arc through the air.
2) Having an extremely mobile all-terrain missile launcher that can launch nukes from anywhere to anywhere. This is huge. You don't need silos, just load warheads on this thing.
And another thing: the faggots that complain about the knees being weak points don't realize that you won't even see this thing up close, it's a nuke sniper for all intents and purposes.

Tanks are not designed to be submersible - and even if they WERE, it would not be for extended periods of time like the Ray is capable of.
And despite what you might think, slapping "modern" on it doesn't mean it's magically capable of such feats. All tanks suffer from the same issues with the terrain that Rex gets around handily enough on its own, if it ever needs to move of its own accord.
To that end, there is not a single tank capable of loading up a WMD with the kind of potential Rex has, as the point of Rex is to disregard the need for aerially deployed ordinance using its shoulder-mounted railgun. That weapon alone defeats the purpose of most "modern weapons" as it was described to be capable of landing accurate hits on satellites without disclosing its location because the shells didn't use flares or propellant. It was never meant to be a "front-line" weapon you let just ANYONE see. No, that role goes to Ray for being a submersible attack weapon platform that only really attacks water-based infrastructure.

The original Rex was built as a ANTI-MISSILE DEFENSE system.
Being able to move, aim and one-shot them with a railgun too big to be moved easily on ground.
Arguably it can also launch all kind of projectiles at probably any fucking range, so it would be an artillery system that can shot (cheaper) projectiles on factories deep into enemy lines.

It was also secretly meant to launch "stealth" nuclear missiles, and skirt a nuclear non-proliferation agreement.

The legal aspect doesn't need to make sense. Just look as our IRL political landscape.
Other countries will just think you are being fancy with your anti-missile defense.
...until the day you put the stored "not missiles" nuclear bomb into railgun shell.

I'm not saying they meant to make it realist, it's just a damn video game final mecha boss

Only half-true, it would have the shockwave without emitting much heat. Reaching hypersonic is only relevant if you can maneuver.
Also the US literally wanted to use railgun on warship to help launch hypersonic projectiles, this is just the mad science version.
Not that MGS setting make sense technologically. Everything would be super-tech to our level.

here's something you're failing to account for
in a universe where it's possible to submerge a Ray it's also possible to submerge a tank, and in fact easier to do so because the square/cube law hasn't changed

same thing with the Rex, literally nothing stops anyone in that universe from just taking that railgun and putting it on a tank, or a submarine, or a plane

The Russian needed to buy infrared googles from other countries
If the Ukrainian had their hands on even a few of those ridiculously convenient stealth devices, they would have blown up the integrality of Kerch's Bridge, killed every one under Putin, only leaving Putin alive so he could sign his unconditional surrender.

A real metal Gear should have been a moving fortress like an AI tank on train tracks moving at high speed and you had to infiltrate it and sabotage it.

No, arsenal doesnt count

Rex wasnt the complete focus of their project
When you meet Otacon, you reveal to him that they were planning on equipping it with a rail gun
So even the main engineer behind REX didnt know about the railgun
The Railgun was the entire point of the MG, without it, its just a cool pile of scrap metal
It also had a FUCKING DICK LASER

If you want a stupid, pointless "metal gear" in the metal gear universe, then play MGS3...

The basic idea is that it uses a runway to build speed for the missile to increase its range to make them Intercontinental which would blindside the nuclear theater predictions of the other side, RAXA is basically the same idea but vertical.

Think of them as two stage rockets, but the first Stage is a Hover-Tank-Truck/Extremely clunky and useless Spider Tank.

Key word, you still keep the development secret so they are too late and feel humbled by your giant railgun-sized dick.
Also believe it or not, not everyone start from the basis the nuclear non-proliferation is complete bullshit and it's the only way to MAD strategy.
At the very least, keeping it secret give you a pretext to look into smaller states business if they are developing nukes that they might deploy using more creative means
