I've been preaching this for over 6 years.
The games where I first noticed how bad it became were Control and RE2, where the SSR had insane shimmering because they were counting on TAA to smooth it out. btw SSR is still used with with RT on in Control
Even if that twink is a grifter, I'm glad that someone is trying to put attention on this insanity we've ended up in.

>nvidia introduces DLSS and ray tracing with Turing
>everyone shits on it and calls it a fad
>6 years later, Turing cards aged ten times better than their ayymd counterparts from that time because both technologies are now the standard
>now ai slop texture compression is going to make the vram shortages in Blackwell cards irrelevant
This tech is going to be the next big thing they push, they'll be able to sell "amateur" AI cards with more vram and huge markup and still maintain monopoly in gaming without cannibalizing the AI segment. Oh and game devs will have to care even less about optimization so you know it WILL get adopted.

This only works if gamers actually increase their resolution as graphical complexity increases. But they don't. PC gamers are stuck on 1080p and refuse to budge, even though the per-pixel complexity of modern graphics has left 1080p output behind long ago. There are a lot of problems with games that are caused by lazy untalented devs and poor tech, true, but a big part of modern image quality issues is that faggots refuse to move on from a resolution that's nearly two decades old and not enough anymore.

The upscaling part of Transformer model barely runs any worse. In fact it looks better enough that you're better off running Transformer Performance than CNN Quality on older cards, it'll run the same while looking better.
The actual DLSS component that runs much, much slower on older hardware is ray reconstruction, which is already a very situational gimmick and you shouldn't be using RT on old cards anyway.

An RX480 was a 1080p + 1440p GPU from 2016 that cost 250 bucks. With inflation that amounts to about 350 bucks. For 350 bucks today you can get an RX9060XT with 16GB VRAM which is easily a 1440p GPU with twice the VRAM.
GPU prices are not great but to pretend they're somehow so bad that you gotta stick to an ancient resolution and never upgrade is silly.

I'm saying this: >>715971895 traditional raster rendering is no longer giving you good image quality not just because devs suck and new tech is full of gimmicks, it's because the resolution most PC gamers still use (900p/1080p) are ancient and just don't have the pixelcount to deliver good image quality in modern 3D games.

Show me any legitimate tech outlet's comparison or whitepaper that proves or affirms what you just said, that native 1080p will look better than upscaled 4K every time. (You cannot because it's pure nonsense, a coping mechanism your brain came up with.)

In fact if you actually ask any legitimate tech outlet what their opinion on 4K upscaling with tech such as DLSS4/FSR4 is, they'll usually recommend it over rendering at native 4k let alone 1080p.

I don't understand why TAA is used as the baseline AA that more advanced AA are built off of in modern games today. Isn't it harder to fix the smearing than it is to smooth a bunch of jagged models? Hell, why not just use a very small AI model to act as an AA to fix the jagged models as a game runs? Pretty sure a small enough specialized AI would be cheaper to run than whatever is being done today.

Because the types of aliasing that happen in post 2009 games are not types of aliasing a simple spatial AA method can address. They're not geometric aliasing of an image, they're aliasing that happens due to differences between frames. Something that AAs a single image doesn't do the trick anymore, you need something that somehow consistently applies AA to a combination of frames. Temporal aliasing and its more advanced cousins are the only answered that have been provided so far, but yes the smearing at this point has arguably gotten worse than the aliasing ever was.

you can kinda have that with DLSR when comparing with DSR within nvidia settings
2x DLDSR has much better smoothing of compared to 2x DSR
but ofcourse 4x is ideal so no point in comparing that
I think the biggest issue is when you move the camera in the game and everything flickers due to crazy amount of subpixel detail in modern games so you need something that deals with jaggies while in motion

are you fucking braindead , you can't just take my words out of context and compare resolutions without comparing the device sizes, you got 4k and 8k resolutions because you needed screens the size of the football field you stupid mutt. it's a retarded argument that 1080p lacks pixels to show you a good image since everytime when you compare resolutions there's pixel density as well, if you have 2 monitors one at 4k and one at 1080 with the same pixel density in ppi the image has literally the same quality. or what's your next argument that in 4k the increased amount of pixels lets you see the electrons revolving around the atoms the main character's face is made of ?

Your argument basically boils down to "shrink the physical size of the display until the problems of the image are no longer visible" which is not an argument. 21-24" is the traditional size for 1080p screens and with that display size the visual issues are very clear with modern games.

Performance mode of 4K DLSS (so 1080p to 4k) looks dramatically better than 1080p (TAA or no TAA, doesn't matter) while running much more smoothly than native 4K. FSR4 produces this effect too, anyone with 4K monitors and a modern graphics card can attest to this. You wouldn't be wrong if you called this cheating or not real 4K or that this approach will cause more issues down the road - but pretending your 1080p is somehow the bastion of quality and clarity is utterly ridiculous, anything that happens on your screen no matter its size will look like shit compared to 4K DLSS.

There are 27 inch 1080p displays and there are 27 inch 4k displays. Put two together and you can directly compare the visual quality side by side, apples to apples. Even the Performance mode of 4K DLSS will obliterate any 1080p mode in terms of motion clarity, detail, sharpness. For 1080p to compete you'd basically need to shrink it down to a phone-tier screen size so the physical display grid becomes small enough to hide the shortcomings.

Unless you meant the 6090, in which case you're right. 48GB of VRAM only $3999 MSRP (cheapest model available for purchase is $5499).
And for the gamers, the 6080 (one-third the core count of the 6090, 192bit bus w/ 12GB of VRAM) only $899! That's $100 less than the previous generation, what a steal!
