i've been playing with a pretty awesome 25m guild since early wrath and i'm looking forward to it but it's definitely a "where do they go from here" situation, releasing mists is an obvious choice since it was popular but wod was pretty unpopular. wod/legion might be worth doing but after that what happens?

back then, the devs didnt refer to the first raid as a raid tier because it didnt drop unique transmogs or have an actual 2/4 piece tier set with effects. it was more like the interlude to the real raid. even at launch you could open the raid journal and see highmaul and brf bosses/mechanics/loot at the same time

Played it religiously on launch, like every WoW expansion and loved it. That said, I'd never spend a second replaying it. I don't know why people want to replay these games, the experience and community isn't there.

been raiding with my guild for a few xpacs in classic now and it's great, the release cadence is quick so each raid tier's only a few months, enough time to prog it but never so long it gets old as shit.

i have never played any WoW and plan to start soon because i want to make decisions of questionable soundness
i've seen people suggest just playing on retail (although they said the new player experience isn't great) and classic anniversary (i don't know what this is) but no one has mentioned classic regular. does anyone have any advice or do i just do whatever, get bullied by grognards with thirty extensions for not knowing from 20 years of experience that if i jump near a wall in some place i aggro seven mobs which jeopardizes the optimality of their grinding xelman for a rare dog to ride (this is my understanding of what WoW gameplay is)

fuck no don't play on retail, it's an awful experience for a new player, you get weaker as you level and the game does not adequately teach you how to do things.

classic anniversary is a good option. it's currently in the original vanilla state of the game and will progress through expansions over time. it's basically a "restart" of the original version of classic, which is now on mists.

you can also check out mists if you want, it's hitting in like two days and was a popular expansion. it's a lot less time-consuming to get to max level than vanilla.

imo, if you want something extremely time-consuming, go with anniversary, if you want something more casual, go with mists.

That's one of my problems with retail, the fucking thing expects that you've played it before. It gives you a 5 minute tutorial then fucks off and expects you figure out everything for yourself. The game is such a fucking mess even Blizzard doesn't know how to approach it for new players, so it just fucking hands you everything as you level.

i'm in a non-4chan guild and we raid 25m normal mode raids saturdays at 6pm once a week for 3-4 hours at the start of a raid tier which usually gets reduced to like 1-2 by the end of the tier

I don't think MoP is bad or anything, it's just... who cares?
