I'm the total opposite I loved HL2, but when I finally played HL1 it was a struggle, sure it was dated and I can appreciate at the time it might have been groundbreaking but if I ever do play it, it will be the Black Mesa version. HL2 is great though, INFRA and HL2 are some of my favorite games that give me a feeling of going on a real adventure.

I recently finished it and it was a fantastic journey, and proof games don't need to be action packed to be amazing.
Shame you don't like HL1, but maybe Black Mesa will change your opinion. Just keep in mind that the final section of the game is vastly different to the original.

Same but I tried to play them in order when Alyx was announced. It started bugging out quite late in to the game and it wasn't really introducing anything fun after maybe the midway point so I ended up dropping it. HL2 was just amazing.

Literally the first guy you meet on the train tells you he didn't see you come on and makes nothing of you. Guy you meet in the canals doesn't even recall Gordan Freeman's name and just assumes you're some guy. It's cool as shit seeing the facility in a more realistic depiction.
The original game is still worth trying though. In some places the narrative is actually better, like the Marines sounding creepy and the system AI retaining its normal voice when the military take it over.

It's okay, but I generally prefer the goldsrc engine. It's snappier and the gunplay feels better, although black mesa went to lengths to try to fix it. That said it has a lot of problems like low ammo counts and general slipperiness.

I don't agree with HL2 fundamentally, in my headcanon Gordon chooses to die at the end of HL1, I would have been perfectly fine with a sequel to HL1 just not with Gordon around because Gordon is dead! HL1 was a tragedy, Gordon inadvertently worked for the bad guys all along and it led to his ruin. He was given the choice to either work for the (obviously evil) G-Man, or die, and in my headcanon he clearly chose the latter option. As for the actual game itself, I'm sure it's a great shooter, but I just can't agree with the story. It's pants-on-head stupid.
