Plenty of those games are hidden gems, that filtered reviewers who are just bad - like Haunting Grounds for example. That was an era where if an element was ""frustrating"" the reviewer would dock points. Plus, you have much more divisive genres represented there. Meanwhile the only real competition, GC - has just a core set of 15 or so first party games, where some were great - others were just lame. If you weren't interested in Mario shovelware, you'd had to wait months and months for anything good. Meanwhile, you had like 1 or 2 entries of a certain genre and nothing else.
