I played it through for the first time two years ago.
I tried it on release, but couldn't stand it after an hour, but this time around I loved the game. It held up really well and I love the cheesy cutscenes.

It's good, but not my favorite. Great first third, good middle third, tedious final third. Also, combat's pretty low on the list of reasons I like RE. Yeah, I don't think it's a masterpiece or anything but it's far from a bad game.

Most fun RE game.

One of my least favorite of the big RE games. I unironically think Revelations 2 is a better game than RE4.

REmake 2 > RE3 > REmake > RE2 > RE1 > REmake 3 > RE4

Possibly my favorite game of all time. I have a ps2 save with over 100 playthroughs on it.
Although replaying it recently after a few years of hiatus and playing more modern shooters, I started doing this thing where I would start aiming up when pressing the aim button because I never released the left stick.

The HD restoration patch is high art.

That changed when they rereleased a PC port years later along with the PS4/XB1 versions

Really good. Especially with gyro aim. Just a shame that most of the Switch Controller configs suck an insane amount of shit. I got a Dualsense for my pc pretty much for this game

Context matters here. RE4 is still operating under the pretense of somewhat being a horror game. RE has never tried to be a TPS removed from horror elements, they have always incorporated design elements meant to create a sense of tension in the player.

It addresses the first two reasons in the image. Horror works better when the player's control and capacity has imposed limitations, otherwise in RE's case you might as well play Contra instead. If all you want is a run-and-gun style of experience, why play this series at all? Aside from maybe RE5 it's never tried to be a pure expression of that style of gameplay.

People who don't play a wide variety of games (faggot casual normalfags) want everything homogeneous or else they get upset at facing a learning curve, however small. RE4make is closer to a generic baseline of modern third person shooters than the original so that's what they want.
