You either hope you can work your way high enough to exert enough creative control in AAA or that you can make the next indie hit and that you can get a studio up in running while avoiding all the bullshit. Games are expensive so unless you want to spend a decade with crowdfunding for a game that may or may never come out, you have to work with someone to get the money. And it just so happens that those people have an agenda they’re trying to push. So many hurdles, not to mention the kind of people that want to make games are nerds. And most of them have extremely weak wills, they’re the kind of people that will fold at the first sign of any kind of validation or ego stroking.

Maybe on the defensive side, but there are historically many groups that idolize conquest. Just look at Alexander the Great or Genghis Khan that expand their empires by conquest, the colonial project in the New World, and even from Rome and Ancient Greece our current ideas are built on with the Roman origin story and the Illiad/the Odyssey being about the Greeks conquering Troy in the Trojan war. It's important to be prepared for war regardless since you need to defend against these people, but it is not the case that nobody wants to go to war as otherwise it would never happen.
