The problem with modern Nintendo games is that they're obsessed with pretentious, underutilized gimmicks, piss-easy difficulty with no options for harcore gamers and older players, and zero consistent, meaningful story applied to their lore or characters. Their game developer mentality is still trapped in the 90's, for better or worse. Oh, that and the blatant anti-consumer greed. That needs to go too.

If they fixed those issues, they'd be golden among gamers and casuals alike, and I seriously mean that.

first of all, botw is literally just this stretched across the whole game world so unless you shit on that game too i dont wanna hear it.
second, hyrule field is what we call a "hub world"
hub worlds are usually mostly barren and empty, while the connected levels/regions are far more packed.
its also spaced out just enough that your first time leaving the forest (and without complex mechanics, hence the average first time player) you wont get to the castle before the gate closes so that you're introduced to the fact that the day/night distinction actually changes the way areas work.
and finally it serves as an incentive to actually use epona before you get the teleport songs in the second half of the game.
