Either way, my dad lost his job back in 2024 after the hospital he worked at claimed all these complications. But the reality was he was the highest paid doctor at a struggling rural hospital (that is going to struggle even more with the new medicaid cuts which was how they made most of their money) and they found any reason to fire him, and had fired a bunch of other nurses and doctors around the same time. Now he can't find another job because the hospital royally fucked him by reporting the complications, even though other doctors at the hospital, and other surgeons he knows defended him and his complication rate was was at or below the normal rate for surgeons in his field. He did a ton of high risk surgeries that a smaller rural hospital wasn't really ready to do, but he's always had an ego about that kind of stuff. He's going to sue the hospital and his lawyer thinks he has a multi million dollar lawsuit because they essentially destroyed my dad's 40+ year medical career and he can't even get another job at his age in his field, he's almost 70.

Anyways don't know why I just spewed all this personal shit here just wanted to vent I guess. I feel so bad for my dad because he worked his fucking ass off his entire life to get to where he was only to have it ripped away from him. The worst part is he left his job at a university teaching hospital because he wanted to make more money before he retired and they just completely fucked him over.

With manual labor, that's actual shit work. I remember getting a warehouse job fresh out of high school and you always had some supervisor breathing down your neck about numbers you needed to hit every hour, pick at least 5 short lines and 1 large one every hour, if you don't have any, load some shit into storage, that kind of thing. I used to work for EA as a product manager before I switched over to an industrial firm for better pay. My job was basically tard wrangling people in various departments to talk to each other and actually set a clear goal/timeline for the product.
Always felt a bit bad for getting paid more than most of the devs because I felt like my job was like the definition of a non-job. Most of time I work standard d9 to 5 replying to emails and going into meetings, only really had to do crunch time during early planning stage or nearing launch.
One thing I hated the most about working with a big company is that you have to deal with branches across the world and I sometimes have to wake up at 2AM, put on a suit, throw water in my face, and try to act all friendly while hiding the boiling hatred and anger inside me for having to do an online meeting with a bunch of stupid cunts who wanted a face-to-face meeting to feel special.

I've been there during food events and family hangouts. I used to jog the running path that circumvents the office buildings. I've been in and out of your lame campus, dork, I lived right next to it for a year. It's ugly and awful. I even interviewed there for kicks just because I wanted to see the upper floors and got a tour lol. I will conceded one point and say my distaste for it may just owe to disliking Redmond in general.

I was at Epic when that happened. A lot of the people that got let go were non-dev positions (morale team, diversity team, etc) but it wasn't clear what criteria was used for the few devs that actually did get let go. It was great being on the engine team while it lasted, but around the time Creative 2.0 started up almost the entire engine team had been cannibalized to work on Fortnite and it was pretty shitty. The bonuses were great up until around 2022 or so though, and the 100% covered health insurance was nice. For a few years I was getting more in bonuses than my actual salary.

It really depends, I've worked at small startup companies where I was absolutely doing something all day long and usually overtime. Larger organizations are definitely as you describe though. I believe it is because it's difficult to effectively divide up labor, especially with more intangible, creative works. Companies hire to create an impression that they are growing which looks good to investors, but the bulk of activities remain in the hands of a minority. This can also be observed in university, with group projects often being carried by a single person, that never really changes.

Nah TAFE (Australian technical college) degrees aren't worth it for the most part imo unless you are doing something very technical or specific. (doctor, nurse, lawyer, engineer)
Even my friend in banking did TAFE and is way further professional than my other friends with finance degrees.
Cutting out 3 years of your expensive school to get paid and learn on the job is infinitely better. Especially because when you finish your degree you still have to start at the bottom. IT is different these days though because you just need certs more than anything like cisco and comptia.
