/v/ had a month of constant threads about this game with overwhelmingly positive reception. And the vast majority of the negative comments came from a single shitposter who eventually revealed that he never played the original RS2 in the first place.

Based OP. This and octopath 2 are my favourite JRPGs of the last decade. I still like the Atlus games, but those 2 just hit the spot for what I'm looking for. Nostalgia fags will bemoan the changes but the original saga games were too obtuse for their own good.

Yes it's easy to progress. Then you get to the last emperor and the final boss and realize it's impossible to get any of the spells, skills, and equipment needed to beat it without grinding because you weren't following a guide.

if you manage to miss three different items and are also too stupid to use a simple fixed order formation you're mentally challenged, you can miss the somon ring or the intaglio ring but if you also miss the magick stone ring you should consider other hobbies or stick to baby series on rail like final fantasy or persona

Actually the magick stone ring is easily missable. You get it after the second event in the gemstone mine and that event only occurs many years after you add that territory to your empire. So if you go through the canal fort at the start of the game and ignore the western route until the end, it's entirely possible that you reach the final emperor without that event ever occurring.
And as for fixed order formations, the martial artist, herder, and corsair formations involve the emperor attacking first. Only the samurai formation would ensure the emperor does not attack first. But of course you can just use a formation that penalizes the emperor's speed and/or equip him with heavy armor, rather than using a fixed order formation.
Or better yet you can simply cast Mist Cover on your emperor. He will not get hit by temptation while he is invisible (and he might spark an evasion skill). He can stay invisible and heal your other team members during the final battle.

I cast mist cover on my entire team while fighting Rocbouquet and spammed defend until someone sparked temptation evade.
