Trackmania speedrun community let back some of the cheaters after they apologized and sat out the ban. One of them didn't however and started using alts, got caught, and it happened multiple times and over such a long period of time the other cheaters got unbanned and started interacting with the community again.

The people that don't actively follow the sport will never know you did it because they'll only consult the "official" records. The people who do follow the sport will know you were already banned for cheating, so they'll ignore your claims about having a valid WR without even bothering to see if it is legit.
