He loses his powers from a rare affliction and has to painstakingly get them back piece by piece, dealing with the dangers of being mortal while the player finds ways master each ability to survive and protect the weak against an apocalyptic threat. By the end of the game, he is a god.

Superman was “killed” by Toyman, but was actually sent to the future like a million years later or something. It’s on Earth but everyone except Vandal Savage (immortal) is dead. The sun has become red and megafauna are roaming the planet. Vandal basically was responsible for the world ending and has been alone for so long that he regrets his actions. He and Superman team up to fix a time machine and sends Superman back to stop his past self from ruining the world. It was actually a really good story and seeing future Vandal reform and wanting to be friends with Superman was actually endearing.
