I would say it's slightly better gameplay wise, but then it loses it's luster after a few plays. Anime games focus entirely too much on production values much like AAA games do and thus keep losing the understanding you do need some good gameplay to start out otherwise it's just throwaway or disposable. Which sadly has happened to numerous games in this person's post. Take for example, I like Bleach Rebirth Of Souls, but hardly anyone is online on it after week 2, Nen X Impact has good gameplay but recycles too many Anime Screenshots for most people's liking and also has a small but dedicated audience overall who is willing to go out and buy the games. I do not know if the Anime Games industry will be better or it will all go into Gacha territory. But even then those seem to fail as they do not follow the JP Gacha formula of introducing tons of new characters.

Rebirth Of Souls had issues with lower end Laptops and Desktops not working until it was fixed a month later. Sparking Zero's main issue is that it had too many players who would abuse spam moves and even in tournaments in Mexico, Europe, and America there would be players cheating with certain Items in the game. It was not until then that Bandai Namco basically pushed out patches for Sparking Zero. But by that point most of the playerbase basically left or people just became bored and dropped it.

As someone who grew up with the 1999 anime, loved the 2011 adaptation, and caught up to the manga until a few years ago (because Togashi has truly lost his touch), I’m not surprised at all.
I saw this game on the playstation store. Before I even saw the trailer, I was rolling my eyes over it being a fighting game. When I saw the trailer, it gave me a deja vu of the awful JJK fighting game, and I knew it would be a flop.

I guess it’s too much to ask for a title like the Japan-exclusive Future Boy Conan PS2 game. There’s literally nothing I wish for more than a faithful videogame adaptation of an anime in the same spirit as pic-related.

I watched the 2011 anime and enjoyed it. The first arc is 26 episodes. If you care to watch it, start there any continue if you are enjoying it. Despite the protagonists being children, it can get fairly dark at times..

This is a pretty big point. Tag games usually have pretty big rosters. I'm a fighting game fan, and a HxH fan, and I didn't even know the game was out, and if I'm ever going to buy it. I should be the precise target demographic, and I'm probably gonna skip this game, that's fucking awful.
I remember they teased like 4-6 characters before? It doesn't need to be MvC2 levels, but Jesus, give us some more. It's full price and already has DLC too? I see there's 16 at launch rn? This game for some reason got targeted by big fg ecelebs who were posting clips without context like Inquisitors(literally bottom 3 character before first patch btw) wheel setups that had multiple easy counters for example lmao. Togashi had a bit more ambition that can be gleamed here and there on the series though, but he really has not had the best showing to really express it. An when he has had some bits that push HxH forth as something bigger than the average shounen series, it's then straight back to hiatus and then the other modern shounen series just keep on going forward with their own pace and leave HxH in the dust, waiting for the next batch of a dozen chapters where something that might be cool might happen. The problem with the "unexplored regions" bit is that it feels like Togashi wrote them up as this big mystery that then led people to get really fucking hyped about it because the series leads you to think that those unexplored areas are some sort of endgoal. In reality though it has been anything except getting to the Dark Continent that Togashi has put their focus on, the current endless boat ride arc being a good example of how suddenly they wrote in a shitload of new characters instead of focusing on the already rather sizable roster of characters that shounen manga usually end up with. It feels like Togashi wrote themselves into a corner with how much he built up the DC as a place full of danger but then never actually had a plan beyond "it's hell on earth" once the story started to approach actually getting there, so he is just postponing the arrival as much as he possibly can with every trick he can come up with. Any game that would focus on the DC would probably be better off finding some writer who already is a fan of HxH and could tackle the concept while managing to keep it actually possible for the characters to take on the challenge that Dark Continent has as portrayed by Togashi. He obviously can't do it, that's why we are in Mafia Wars right now.

Really, the thing he's most prideful about (or rather, most insistent on) is maintaining its place in Weekly Jump, likely because most of his manga is just plays on ideas central to Jump. Yu Yu Hakusho purposefully acts out the structure of most manga Togashi grew up reading, like Kinnikuman and Dragon Ball.

Kurapika IS the main character of Hunter x Hunter alongside Gon, this is a thing a lot of people miss (both due to the 2011 anime really focusing on Gon and Killua (for merchandising), as well as Volume 0 being fairly obscure).
Kurapika and Gon are parallel storylines. Both are the people with the strongest desires of their group and both pursue them in opposing ways.

False, every source translated that line the same way. The only time it wasn't was when the 2011 anime REMOVED the part of Gyro's chapter, and that was because the 2011 anime was never certain how much it would adapt (hence cutting Kite in the first episode).

And this is false because that's not how "narrative arcs" work. That's his central goal, but there are clear narrative beats beyond that goal now. Does Dragon Ball suddenly have to drop Goku as a protagonist because he achieved his goal of winning the Tenkaichi Budokai? No, it didn't, it kept going for another 24 or so volumes with him as the main character (and then an entire sequel series 20 years later).
Gon still has a tumultuous relationship with Killua that never reached a resolution. The two have merely parted ways for the time being.
Gon still has to regain his nen. Gon will probably be wondering where the fuck everyone went when those events happened and he realizes half his friends and his dad all disappeared at the same time.
In all likelihood, what will happen is this:

1. Hunter x Hunter is not flashy and the world is mostly realistic so most characters just look like dudes. The weirdest characters usually don't get used for anything.
2. Togashi likes realism because he likes deconstructing tropes, so on top of the above, he also never shows his full hand. He'll introduce a character and then never show their abilities in action or tease they have several then kill them after showing a couple. You can count the number of recurring characters we have a full understanding of on one hand. So a video game developer can never faithfully recreate a reasonably sized roster since we don't even know what "faithful" is.
3. Nen is too nuanced to put into an action game.
