I got the platinum for ver. 1.22, you fuck. They totally fucked up the percussions, some of the instrument samples sound off and the vocals are more subdued in general.

The only improvement they actually have is adding instrumental versions of the songs for times when you're off combat, like in Automata. But even then, the trade-off is not worth it.

I don't know why more people didn't complain but it's a much darker/less colorful atmosphere especially in the starting village. Jameson Price voice acting is also far superior. PS3 replicant is really endearing, charming and has an arguably better soundtrack but has some cut content. Ver 1.25 restores all the cut content but modernizes the game to match automata's visual style and combat controls
I'd say to play 1.25 solely because its probably the intended experience now that it has the full contents and maybe replay the PS3 version if you want to experience the game again in a more original presentation.

It's still good, but the line deliveries for Kainé and Weiss are absolutely better in the original game. And I'm sorry, but Yonah's VA cannot do a young girl's voice at all nowadays.

Just like with Catherine Full Body, this would be the version I would recommend to someone new since the QoL changes and new content are nice. But I still prefer the original.

Relicant has improoved gameplay (the controls are better and the combat is more fluid, like Atomato's) but Replicant has the true MC.
Playing Replicant is the correct choice, but it's not perfect due to the lack of Papa Nier. Also, Kaine's bulge is smaller in Replicant.

Taro even went out of his way to maintain the original gameplay one-to-one to the original. He said so as much because the director that was assigned to the project at the beginning wanted to overhaul the combat of all things to make it more like Automata's and Taro was against it.

If anything it's closer to the original than Automata. Unless you can actually explain what do you even mean by "smoothness" I don't think there's any reason to believe it plays like Automata mechanically. I'd be willing to grant you the overhauled animations though.

Brother nier just feels very bland and emotionless in comparison and the music was changed a bit which kinda sucks. I normally am not a fan of western adaptations but this is one of the instances where it actually made the story better.

In ver.1.22, the combat is very smooth-flowing. Not stiff like the original. You could also charge spells besides Dark Blast while moving/ airborne. Haven't played the remake, but I'd describe the OG Nier as a fairly bad game that has some incredible highlights which make it worth playing. Most of that comes from the fact that the actual playing the game part is bad, but it has excellent music, atmosphere, story, world design and characters.

The remake supposedly at least makes some progress in fixing the "actually bad to play" part and also adds more content on the story side, so I guess that's the one to go for. But like I said, I haven't actually played through the remake so I don't know whether they botched something else or not.
