Are you buying Doom on SNES for $100?

It runs at 20fps now instead of the original 10fps.

Yes but 14 new levels.

Yeah no, but I do want to read on what they did to make it run better, if it wasn't just overclocking a SuperFX chip. Preferably no cheating with an RPi shoved in there or some equivalent either.

It's just putting in the remainder of the missing levels compared to PC Doom1, as well as Thy Flesh Consumed. Don't think it's putting in any of the missing sprite animations or making them not always face you though.

At that point you may as well just 'port' Quake 1 to the SNES. Least that'd be a more entertaining abuse of that setup.

Huh, interesting. Not that I'd want rumble in a game that regularly hits single-digit framerates though, since rumble logic is usually processed per-frame.

Might as well just use a fucking emulator.

If you really want to play Doom on 16-bit hardware, they already released the improved 32X version. And they didn't charge $100 for it either like slimy kikes.

>>716038873
It doesn't alter anything. It augments the capabilities of the Mega Drive, and still makes use of the original 16-bit hardware. Retard.
>>716029070 (OP)
Remember when they reflashed old literal-what carts for Shantae Advance and tried to convince people they were just a little dusty from being old stock?
i think what would be cool to own as physical merchandise would be level packs of really good levels. a lot of the vanilla DOOM levels are boring or outright shitty. The underlying gameplay is amazing however. In the 90s they had those CD roms that were like 500 random levels. I think curating it and making sure that every level is A tier would be something worth buying just to have.im sure some would disagree with me but i know i and others would buy one or two things like this especially if the box art looked like something of an authentic expansion.
>>716039701
and to be clear what i meant by this was on a cartridge like in OP. i do not always want to use my PC to play games.
>>716039217
>retard calling others retards
The 32X uses the MD mostly for video passthrough. Depending on the games, it may use it for some sounds or the background but the 32X is still doing the vast majority of the work.
I do wish we got a true DOOM Megadrive with, say, the SVG, and this Limited Run scam is shit but that doesn't mean you get to say stupid shit.

>>716031336
my mom has been playing snes since the 90s, she really likes tetris attack (yoshi's game) and doctor mario
problem is snes controllers are like 30 years old at this point and they keep breaking, and 3rd party ones are kinda shit so this is disappointing, I don't know where to get her a good controller
My understanding is their "Super FX3" concept ended up being a Pi Pico or something.

Seems disingenuous and I have no idea how you'd emulate that since it's not really an SNES game anymore.
>>716044423
one could also argue star fox cheated with it's special 3D chip

SNES DOOM is awful. Not only because it's a version that runs like garbage, but because as a game it's awful.
Even if someone made it run at 60fps and playable with a keyboard and mouse, it would still be awful.

>>716039217
Mate, it's a whole different console, not an "upgrade"
It has video out from it bypassing the Mega Drive
>>716040975
The guy who made the Doom GBA port got a Quake prototype going on the GBA also, but iD didn't want it, nor any of the other companies he pitched the idea of a full 3d GBA FPS at.
>>716039870
>The 32X uses the MD mostly for video passthrough
Not even, it uses it for power and the audio chip, video still comes out of the 32x
>>716043750
It's the same game with all the stages and music but they also double the framerate
Not worth the price in my opinion but for collectors it's nice
>>716045568
Only shit the MD ends up getting used for graphically is just doing any underlay/overlay shit, like a HUD, or a tiled background layer, as an optimization method to let the 32X push its graphical processing elsewhere.
>>716044423
Nah, it's just the chip pretending to be an FX chip but overclocked
The rest of the cart is normal SNES cart components
>>716043897
Download an emulator to her phone or literally any other device that supports snes and get her a retro themed controller.

Not that I was going to buy it but man what a disappointment
This would be a lot more impressive if I couldn't play Doom on my phone or literally any other piece of electronics in my home.

It's hilarious all these turok limited run games cost $200+ from collector retards and now nightdive are publishing a physical triple pack for $60 completely devaluing the limited run games lol
>>716046351
You'd think after multiple decades he'd make a crack at improving it even more just to skill on all the other DOOM porters.
>>716046296
It was never that they were “good” and more that gullible consoomers were under the assumption that they were selling quality products just because they were officially licensed out by their partners. But ever since their inception it’s been clear they cut corners and put retarded fucking people in charge of their business decisions. You would unironically find better quality merchandise for cheaper off of fucking Etsy.
>>716046516
Collectorfags will just argue it's fine because they're not making a triple pack for PS4 and Xbox. Switchfags will be on suicide watch.

>>716029070 (OP)
No because Limited Run is evil and the game speed has not been adjusted to compensate for the increased framerate so the jankiness of the engine and inaccuracies to OG Doom are a lot more noticeable.

Maybe he'll correct the issues video producers have noticed with the current build by the time it comes out but that doesn't assuage any of my lack of confidence or trust in LRG which unfortunately far outweighs the skill and craftsmanship of any dev they've contracted.
>>716030945
Limited Run has been playing fast and loose since it was founded. Did you miss the Gex collection a few months ago which was just US Roms until Europenises screamed bloody murder for their (shitty) Vocie Actor/Gex to be included?

Or the Jurassic Park collection which included the NES and Gameboy ROMs which are the same goddamn thing?
>>716046296

They were always grifters bilking "MUH PHYSICAL OWNERSHIP" tards out of their money.
>>716030230
>>716030274
Isn't this like that new JRPG for NES that uses large sprites with lots of colors because there's basically a whole new console inside the cart and the OG NES is pretty much only used for I/O.
>>716049240
That’s true, fool me once and all that
>>716049564
Pretty much.
>>716049564
No, what game are you talking about btw?
>>716047274
Because you're literally rolling the dice on their quality.

Like, as an example the Persona 3: Portable LRG "Collectors Edition" with the (cool, but just a display essentially) Evoker TOOK A YEAR AFTER THE DIGITAL RELEASE to actually release and even then was just a "put batteries in the Evoker and... that's it" release.

Like, when LRG releases a product that's good it's *good* but it's about 50/50 on if the product they release is actual quality or complete dogshit. Which shouldn't be the case for a company that espouses "high quality limited print runs for physical collectors."
>>716049691
Former Dawn
>>716049564
No clue on what game you're talking about, but essentially: Yeah. They aren't using period accurate hardware and are trying to handwave it away as "well, it *emulates* the hardware of that period!"

Someone will figure out a way to brute force better performance out of this "chip"/Pi and then it won't actually be accurate. Hell, I'm sure the ROM dump will have emulators running it better than LRG and the orginal port programmer that is redoing work designed it for.
>>716049851
I mean that doesn’t even look like an NES game
This is still working the same way as the original SNES soon was with the superFX
>>716046296

It’s not so much that they were good, it’s that they weren’t as shit. Ever since they started branching out to more experimental releases like aftermarket games and rom collections, they’ve been showing their asses more times than not.
