I'm debating getting one this week. Anyone here with buyer's remorse? Is it worth the money if I like mario kart and I have a pretty long backlog on the switch 1? Do the switch 1 first party games all look and run better on switch 2?
Thank you kindly for your responses

Games apparently look worse cus the switch to screen is 1080p so 720p or lower NS1 games are stretched to fit the 1080p screen. Add to that the poor 33+ Ms response time of the screen and the ghosting and blur of the cheap NS2 screen the digital game carts and the wait for software. There isn't a huge reason to buy RIGHT NOW. Unless you really really wanna play Mario Kart and Dokey Kong

I've been enjoying Mario Kart and Donkey Kong was a lot better than I expected. Switch 1 games all seem to run generally better, though for some it's a bit of a crapshoot. I'd say if you have the money and want mario kart and DK, it's worth it. Otherwise just wait until more games come out.

Some games look worse on switch 2 in handheld because of interpolation from 720p to 1080p, also the screen has more latency and several frames of delay. For me it's no remorse, I never had first Switch I got Switch 2 and love it.

Its worth it to me for the following reasons.
>Handheld is my prefered way of playing games these days
>great 3rd party support
>Already heavily invested in the ecosystem
>Nintendo makes durable shit that is pretty difficult to break
>Prefer to own games physically when possible
>Think most modern games suck ass anyways so I'm fine playing older ports

Once they get Fallout on it, it'll be the perfect console for me.

Save your money and buy it either on black friday or years later.

Nintendo and the stores will drop the prices on that shit soon because it is not selling as good as it is in japan with their cheap version.

I actually prefer buying consoles at launch because you keep up to date with the games being released.

I did this with the Switch and PS3, where I bought them right at the end of their lifecycles for cheap, got the better models, and dozens of games all at once, probably playing about 10% of them all the way through.

With the Wii though, I remember having the capacity to follow new games and play them all the way through while waiting on the next big thing.

The Xbox One and Ps4 were already 5 years old by that point and those games were also a few years old, of course it's going to be cheaper than a brand new console im the year 2025. Unfortunately it seems like all modern consoles are going to stay relatively expensive no matter how old they are. PS5 is still over $400 despite being 5 years old and I don't see the Switch 2 going down in price either.

they aren't dealbreakers but you'll notice them unless your head is really far up your ass. it's not bad enough to make you wish you were on a switch 1 instead but you will think "i really wish they patched this" any time you play a switch 1 game that's 720p or less in handheld (almost all of them).

8 is a lot better than World. World is a downgrade at worst, a side-grade at best.

games are a great use of time even if poor because $70 for zelda for example can give you hundreds of hours of entertainment. or, $70 buys a nice steak for 1 hour of a meal.

so in that sense gaming is great no matter your status.

Oh I absolutely love it. I bought a Switch in 2018, and I also bought the OLED when it came out, and good games were coming out around that time so I still used my Switch a bit right up to Switch 2's launch.

The screen isn't really that much worse than the OLED. After people pointed it out, I did notice that input-response is a BIT slower on the Switch 2 LCD compared to my TV (A Samsung Q60T which isn't even that good) but a lot of things look great on it. Playing some of the best Switch 1 first parties in upgraded versions that have better framerate and higher resolution and HDR on is awesome.

But I also just love how it looks and feels. The new menu and eShop interface feels comfy.

The only downside is that Switch 1 titles that aren't getting patched can look pretty awful going from 720p output res to 1080p upscaled. It looks like playing Nintendo DS games on the 3DS basically. It's using a bad bilinear filter to upscale it.

I'm getting one.
A lot of the complaints simply don't matter to me.
I'll be playing it docked 90% of the time, I have never played a Switch game so I have plenty of games to play.
I don't have a lot of time to play games either so I'll amuse myself with 3/4 games for years.

I didn't have a switch 1, I emulated on PC. I didn't have a steam deck either, so given switch 1 lasted 8 years and counting, it's 100% worth it.

That's a big factor too, it's not a system that will be replaced any time soon. Plus it can be portable, even if you dock it most of the time.

The only time it feels fine is when Iโ€™m playing with friends or at a party or something, but playing these childrenโ€™s games alone as an adult just feels absolutely pathetic. Nope, if anything I have late buyer's remorse from my Switch 1 purchase. I barely played it outside of Zelda and Mario because the hardware was so underpowered and useless and the screen was way too small to bother playing handheld. I've played like fifty hours of Mario Kart World almost all handheld and I'm finally finishing TotK after I had to quit shortly after launch cause the framerate was maiming my eyes. And I'm looking at picking up a bunch of games I skipped on Switch 1, plus Donkey Kong is fun as fuck, so nah, definitely worth the purchase.

>Anyone here with buyer's remorse?
Not remorse, but I don't like how they followed Microsoft and Snoy. Switch 2 is heavily online dependent. It checks itself online. It forces updates for games online. Your stuff is online account bound. Need an online account just to download patches. I don't like it and this will be the last video game console I buy. PC is just better with less always online demands, funny as it is. My hope was that Switch 2 would be better all around and it's kinda better, kinda worse.

>Is it worth the money if I like mario kart and I have a pretty long backlog on the switch 1?
I actually have only been playing Switch 1 games on Switch 2. I don't want Kong Dong and Mario Kart Wold was fine.

>Do the switch 1 first party games all look and run better on switch 2?
I got 6 Switch 1 games specifically because of Switch 2 and they all run better.

you're not going to have buyer's remorse long term, because nintendo will continue to make more top tier exclusives. it's not a ps5 or xbox that won't ever get games.
imo, mario kart and dk are worth it now but you'd probably be fine waiting another 6-12 months. Not all switch 1 games look better but some of the ones that got update patches like botw and totk look and run amazing

I'd say it's well worth the money just for Mario Kart alone, but take my word with a grain of salt as I'm a huge tendie and I skipped out on MK8D for the regular switch so I was craving Mario Kart for many years now.
And hey, it's a damn solid machine. If you trust in good releases throughout the years there's no reason not to get it right now, unless you're waiting for some sort of special edition.

You don't need internet to play games on your switch 2. If grandma and grandpa don't have internet that's your problem. I personally would never let my elderly family in such poverty with basic utilities like internet so maybe sell your switch and buy them internet

i bought it and dk a week ago:

its slimmer than my steamdeck which is nice for playing in bed.

the joycons still feel chintzy as shit although they're a bit higher quality than the switch 1 joycons, its like upgrading from a madcatz to an 8bitdo.

screen: ive mostly played docked so i cant really comment although the screen seems to lack saturation and contrast, the hdr is useless but i already figured that since it wasn't oled.

the OS and system software are much nicer to use since you dont get random lag spikes like you did with the switch 1, i can actually browse the eshop on the s2 without the console shitting itself.

a lot of issues from the s1 still remain though, like the eshop lacking better discoverability tools and more advanced filtering/sorting. theres also the continued lack of alternative system themes beyond the basic light/dark modes the s1 had which imo is still a big negative.

if it wasnt for dk and mp4 i probably would have waited for a hardware refresh with an oled screen.

anecdotally, this is only a problem for switch games that run sub-720p in handheld like xenoblade. At that screen size, 720p isn't a dealbreaker at all, as someone who has been playing a lot of Super Mario Wonder on a Switch 2.

I have held a personal policy since the Wii that I will not buy a console until the cost of the games I want exceeds the cost of the system itself. It has mostly served me well, but I broke that rule for Bananza and I don't regret it. If you have the money to burn and want a specific title bad enough, go for it, otherwise you should wait until the system's library fills out a bit.

Switch2 is worth it for early adopters year 1 if you have a giant backlog of Switch games and specific games like Scarlet and Violet that ran like shit on the first model. It is also viable for people that have wanted to get into the ecosystem for a more powerful switch and have been waiting for something with a better skeleton. If you aren't one of those people then wait a year and then buy in for the product. Mario Kart World is a blast to play and Bananza is excellent but if you are looking for a vast market of Switch 2 exclusives Nintendo is playing the long game again. It's why the free and paid for upgrades are a thing with the first year to keep the small months of dead air between Metroid, pokemon or daemeon x machina burn a little less. I personally have no remorse for the console considering I use it in conjunction with the Switch Oled as a secondary console.
