The Smoke Room was not as good as Echo. I dont care if you only care about the porn but the narrative and characters of Echo was much more compelling.

Unless something happened without me looking it is still In-Dev, but it now no longer has any "Official" Ties to Echo and Echo Project nuked its Itch page and scrubbed out of any association to it and it was reuploaded by George as a "Fangame". Nik route was done a while back, Murdoch route is under development.

>>716068302
More or less, for one thing Echo barely has porn and the few sex scenes it has are all framed negatively.

In fact Chase (The main character) doesn't even get "Love Interest" of each route in the majority of them.

Carl rejects him cause he is unsure if his feelings are actually his own and gets a GF instead.
Leo gets KEKED, as Chase gets with another Character.
TJ Loses By Winning.
Flynn HATES Chase by the end of his and dies
Jenna (who is female and the "Bi-option") is cheeky about it, but suggests it can happen in the future, and she says she will Wingman you choice if you don't enable her as a Romance option at the start of the game (Note: Leo is a non-starter in this route.)

The Smoke Room is super porny to point it actively detracts from the setting and is non-sensical. You play as a male prostitute who is the "Secret Menu Option" of a Brothel (fronting as a Helper/Bartender), but there is also a barn where the local miners have all male parties and dance and generally act faggy with eachother in romantic ways he never heard of right around the corner.

There is also a sequel, Arches that is short IIRC didn't really go hard on the porn and is pretty good, the MC is a Psychic who goes to a Haunted Hotspot, triggers the fuck out of it and then gets kidnapped by a Serial Killer who wants him to solve the fact he is haunted by his victims. It goes more for tension then anything.

For Echo I'd say it's the opposite. The character designs are okay but the setting and atmosphere are really good.
Maybe it was just me since I'm a pussy but I genuinely thought some it's scenes and characters were genuinely creepy.

as other anons said, minigames tied in with specific pieces of furniture. otherwise I'd quite like the ability to host a town on a server, so you can share a village with people online instead of needing to share a console and take turns playing. nintendo's horrible online infrastructure for AC however will never make this a reality

I don't know. The decomp seems promising but Animal Crossing at its core is on-par with gachas where you do your dailies and then fuck off rather than playing in larger sessions.
Cult of the Lamb having something else tacked onto seems nice on paper but both halfs are shit. All the "AC-inspired" indies double down on being adjacent to Stardew and being too derivative. Webfishing shows you can just ape the aesthetic and glue it onto a VRchat social-sim with shallow gameplay and people will buy it.
The extra shit on New Leaf seemed neat at first but it's just minigames with an AC skin that didn't do much to the core game.

>Has confirmed gamer rage moments, complete with a hole in the wall.
>Owns guns.
>Hates college because "It doesn't make you smater, just more liberal".
>His porn search history makes his computer lag and includes "Handholding".
>Eats TV-dinners.
>Masturbates in his car.
>Has a Tulpa.
>Absolute Turbo-Jobber who fails at everything, and especially if it involves Jenna in any way.
>Still so popular even after his own route spent nearly its entirety shitting on him that he THEN basically derails an entire different route so there can be even more shitting on him even more by making him a "Pedo" due a 2-3 year old age difference.
>He didn't even actually get time off from work, he is No-Showing the whole week. Keep in mind he works for his own dad.

Nothing, ignoring the "woman took over and enshittified it", the core charm of Animal Crossing is it being tied into living in the Japanese boonies with lots of care in its folklore that got panned to the sideline for a global audience to skip needing to localize it properly.

what you call a noticeable shift is what is actually just a franchise iterating on itself. New Leaf introduced the idea of adding decorations to the village outside of just flowers and trees which in itself played off the role Tortimer had in adding a new bridge to the villages in AC Gamecube, New Horizons just leaned fully into this aspect. I would argue the destruction of tools and resource gathering loop leans more into something more male dominated, Survival Crafting games. you just want to be mad a woman and have worked backwards to justify a conclusion you already had

The "pedo" thing is weird because it just gets completely brushed aside and nobody cares about it by the end. Even the dude he slept with was just "yeah we fucked who cares"
Leo was 16 and Micha was 13, a 3 year age difference while technically not a big deal (it's still kind of weird and kind of fucked) it's a bigger deal he video tapped it. Which is pretty heinous but that ends up going nowhere and is just swept under the rug. Not to mention Leo pretty much never brought him up ever to anyone and pretended he never existed while Micha ends up getting kicked out his house by his parents and is homeless.
This all gets swept away however and everyone then becomes friends, I guess. I guess you can chalk it up to extreme trauma bonding after all the events of that night.

All the Leo shitting doesn't stop him from still being popular though.

I understand why people feel this way and I think a lot of the charm of the GameCube game is how Animal Crossing's while little world moves around you. Your house is almost like a little bonsai tree you can keep iterating on over time vs a game like new horizons where basically the whole world is your bonsai and I think that's fine too. The one thing I would probably want to backport to old games from NH is making it harder for villagers to move out, if only because I like to collect photos and even in NL they try to move out way too fast lmao. As for going forward, I would like the next entry to go more into the farming/vegetable stuff and cooking

eh it'd probably work fine if it like NL where houses are zoned in a way to not interfere with objects placed outside, though NH's way of just having set plots is also fine. I just would like to see how the other villagers could impact the village visually with decorations around their home, instead of the player having complete and total control over basically every aspect of outside portion of the islands. maybe we can cut terraforming but keep path making and fences, and have outdoor decorations that function more like the public work projects, or have public work projects zone out specific areas for customization. Like you can build the park, and then fill it with park themed furniture.

Soulcreek is more linear though, choices basically are just "See naughty bits/Don't see naughty bits.", I mean Echo is still conservative with it but it does have "Bad Endings" for half of the routes (Carl,Leo and Jenna) and getting Chase killed with poor decisions. So Failstates.

The thing Soulcreek does well is the sound design and toying with your expectations, right down to Loken turning out to he a terrible first impression of your average person in the setting cause he got autism ;_; making it easy to downplay when he warns of stuff. Like haha, demons aren't real, they are just killer robots. but i can't actually recall choices killing Alex or ending the story prematurely, though thing could been tallied in the background gearing up for the ending i guess.

I mostly agree buts its hard to accurately gauge the content so far since only a single route is finished. For all we know the weasel or William's route could go full TJ route and we wouldn't know since they're not even halfway through
I think what makes it weak is that its more a romance story than a horror one if that makes sense. In Echo the writers were willing to tell you to fuck off (Carl, Leo) or make it a monkey paw kind of deal (TJ). But with the Smoke Room the writer HAS to make sure all the romance options get a 'good' ending.
The porn doesn't help either, truthfully who the fuck wants to jack off in a horror game? If I want smut i will read a smut focused work half assing it like this is just worse of both worlds

Chase and Leo are both objectively shitty people. That phone prank he pulled on Leo is actually irredeemable never mind the fact the later reveal that he was still in contact with Leo while he was away so Leo couldn't even move on.
The game pretty hints several times and doesn't directly say he's schizophrenic and on meds (the possession and town influence most likely contribute to that diagnosis) but even then current possessed chase has been the "real" Chase longer then unpossessed Chase.

I think the clincher really is that in Leos good ending Chase STILL tries to go "Teehee let's still be friends~" when they meet again in the Epilogue after Leo talked about how the distance helped him "get better", but at least at that point Leo recovered enough to decline it due realizing he would just get sucked back in, i think it is something many people overlook because it is easy to see just as Chase being nice without the context of the "Chase kept contact" thing which makes it lean more into him doing the same thing again.

I think the best thing about that ending is that it asks for A LOT of emotional maturity from the audience to really understand why that's the best decision. It's such a painful fucking ending to read but it's legitimately the best choice for both Leo and Chase.

For a VN made for gay furfags it's definitely didn't pull some punches on tearing down the fantasy and being fucking real.
