Modern servers suck and will change your main menu around just by joining it, along with other nefarious bullshit. ETLegacy prevents that from happening, along with other QoL improvements, but it doesn't change the fact that modern severs suck when it comes to how they change around the vanilla gameplay.

It's hard to run a good server, so I can understand if you went too far with the banter, and the guy didn't have patience of tolerating some snot nose's banter. I tried running old cs 1.6 server running some superhero or wc3 mod (also some bots), and it was never problem free, and other people had +50-100ms pings despite some being from same region as me

Yeah, it's why I don't look back with overwhelming fondness of the community server-only era like the people who post pic related. It's FAR preferable to modern matchmaking, don't get me wrong. I totally agree. However, the ideal is having some officially supported, dedicated, vanilla servers (which would be accessible via the server browser), kinda like the Quickplay era of TF2. That's the perfect middle-ground for those of us who just want to play the game normally and have fun. No admin cancer, no ads, no retarded changes.
Strangely, id Software eventually added in vanilla servers in fucking 2022...little too late there
