They don't want you to own anything. They're shitting their pants on how fast SKG is now gaining support. They're trying to turn this into another gamergate and I'm afraid it's actually working.
Game journalists are making Asmongold and Pewdiepie the face of the SKG movement.
>Many developers are now urging #StopKillingGames organizers to take a firmer stance against hate groups and clarify the movementโ€™s values. โ€œPreservation without protection is meaningless,โ€ said Aviv Salinas, co-creator of Blood Nova. โ€œWe need to preserve games and the people who make them.โ€
>As the campaign approaches legislative milestones, its ability to remain inclusive and principled will determine whether it becomes a force for good or another flashpoint in gamingโ€™s long-running culture wars.
That article is a load of fucking sjw sludge.
They're really playing dirty now, how the fuck do we stop them?

SKG fans claim to fight for justice, but thereโ€™s no justice in demanding indie devs work for free, release IP, and maintain servers forever. Thatโ€™s not preservation, itโ€™s exploitation wrapped in gamer entitlement.

Yeah as if the concept of discontinued games don't exist.
Alpha Protocol was removed from the store front but you can still download the

GTA games actually have the excuse of needing to keep selling them but couldn't be able/arsed to extend the music license.

Why are people who never had any experience working in the industry or an a video game trying to dictate how things should be done in it?

You don't know what would take to actually implement your demands or how feasible they would even be to have in. You don't know how it needs to be sold and everything in order to actually make a profit. Yet you somehow think you're able to just dictate how things you don't understand should work.

Otherwise it's reasonable. Customer protections are important.
I'm more of a libertarian myself, but we live in a society where the law is up our ass at all times anyway, and often at the behest of corporations. As far as laws go, protecting us from exploitation from said corporations is very worthwhile.

The whole service/license thing is just something they made up. You don't have to slavishly submit to it as if it were a decree from the Lord.
If enough people say them shutting down something they have sold to you is theft, then it is theft. Because laws are a social construct and are formed by what people think they should be. It's like rape - only became a thing once people decided that you shouldn't do that, but not a thing in the animal kingdom.

>You aren't allowed to do business with a contractor who isn't qualified to provide a service to certify something as safe.
Still a non-sequitur, you are trying to argue from a foundation of safety and compliance vs the actual argument which is availability. Again, as previously stated, forcing two persons, legal or no, to do business in a certain way is coercion and also introduces anti-competitive elements. Dictating technical compliance is in no way related to dictating a business model.

Try not to make this mistake again.

SKG already blew past all the bench marks with signatures.
SKG already has tons of support from EU officials.
Seems kind of like a huge waist of money and resources to continue paying Indians from Babel Media or whatever to try and convince no one. Money and resources they could use to keep servers up for longer.

You come to a bitter and jaded gaming board that has in large part seen their favorite titles get raped and butchered into dogshit over the years and think anyone will agree with your point here?

Just stop posting. Go to your boardroom and come up with a plan to drone strike Ross or something because posts like this are just going to increase the amount of Ubisoft employees the EU mandates to be killed for crimes against Gamerkind.

Nothing illegal about giving you the code that the studio has the rights to.
However, they aren't going to pay the middleware license fees on your behalf and they aren't going to give you their code. Better start saving up for the license.
> Middleware providers will have to update their contracts or go out of business.
No they won't as previously cited,
CFR Article 16 and TFEU Article 102. It would also fall foul of WTO rules regarding the freedom to conduct business. You cannot compel people to do business a certain way.

>Initially all our creatures had to be bipedal, so we made an ostrich. But it's not a common ostrich, it's a space ostrich, it has paws instead of wings and it poisons you. A hellish creature from a nightmare. It ended up being the funniest monster in the game and got migrated to the 3D version. We came up with all sorts of creative legends about the relationship between the ostriches and the negroes. Ostriches think that - well, they don't think anything - but the negroes think the ostriches are undercover Chinamen who hunt negroes out of hatred for negroes. And they spit on them until they are comatose. Ostriches have a poisonous bite. But actually the ostriches are engineered by the Aryan faction of the game, to guard their future Negro concentration camps. At one point we even had the idea of placing serial numbers on the ostriches but we couldn't do it for technical reasons. Or maybe we could paint swastikas on them, we thought. But basically, it was very funny. Ostriches are cool.

I'm being liberal with cracking here, it depends on the component, it could just be bypassed or it would just make the process of making a private server easier because you already a good portion of what you need, as in the same way private servers are made nowadays already.

You need a license for the server code. Unreal is not just going to let you use their code for free for a game that had a $50m budget.
>>716108392
Unreal has server side code, read the docs. You can also incorporate middleware into your Unreal Engine project, such as Wwise + GME, which is server side and has to be server side, to ensure synchronisation of sounds for players.
You will need to obtain licensing for these.
