Got boucheron, Lapis, Citrinne, even fucking Alfred to endgame, but they were still significantly worse than fresh units i would get. it was just a challenge run by forcing myself to use extremely subpar units. The problem imo was never that bad in other FE's In FE7 practically all your early unit were at least usable, ( not u dorcas, will also a shit) and unit you got weren't completely outclassing everyone else (except Pent, but i always baby-d Erk and he cam ethrough most of the time) Actually, most of the pre-promote were shit and jsut ment to fill holes if you carelessly lost Guy or Raven or anyone.

In any case, it makes it so either you keep using the unit you've gone attached to and weaken yourself, or jsut toss them aside whenever new hotness shows up.

If you actually played both FE and AW, you'd realize that they ask for a different mindset and so, many strats that work in one wouldnt necessarily work in the other.

It's because other RPGs have their complexities elsewhere compared to FE. So the SRPG fans who value those specific things see them absent in FE and call it shit or baby's first SRPG. Likewise, FE fans see the lack of intricate map design and overeliance on RPG mechanics to win in other SRPGs and say the same about them. FE is just very different compared to the rest of the genre.

I have a friend that has always been interested in top down strategy games like XCOM and similar titles. He tried a Fire Emblem game once (Awakening I think??? I don't think it was Fates but around that time) because he knows I love them and he quit basically 5-6 chapters into one of them because it wasn't engaging enough for him and he just saw it as very simple "lure enemy at edge of range, blitz with entire party with attack as your only option." I tried to explain that the gameplay would change pretty dramatically as he gets into later chapters, but he's one of those, "if I have to play X hours before it gets good, then I'm not playing it" type people. I think he literally just wanted characters to have more options than move and attack.

It's hard to explain that Fire Emblem is both a super simple strategy game, but also can be really difficult to play efficiently and optimally.
