Why has there never been a black mage as main character in Final Fantasy games?

Magic users as main protags in JRPGs is pretty rare. They're usually either a fighter or a fighter/mage hybrid.

I'm wondering. Mages and wizards are usually depicted as scrawny and physically frail because they're devoted to intellectual pursuits, but isn't there any kind of wizard that uses magic to empower his body, getting a lifetime of physical training for basically free on top of your spellcasting?

Red Mage could work, they carry the classic swords (rapiers etc) and can cast both black and white magic spells.

Osvald worked out because of prison and worked out before prison because he knows physical health is interlocked with mental health.
