VTM Bloodlines 2 developer, The Chinese Room, just bought themselves out of their publisher Sumo Digital, and are now going indie.

Without the other Sumo Digital studios, The Chinese Room is ~50 employees. Their previous games are walking simulator type games - Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Still Wakes the Deep.
Not sure how many action combat devs and testers they might possibly have on their team.
The recent Bloodlines 2 delay is probably exactly due to this self-buyout. And since they paid this bribe, I'm guessing Chinese Room is all in on this game, and if it fails they might go Black Isle.
Hoping its good (eventually). At any rate, its been interesting watching this development hell rival Duke Nukem Forever.
>>716129008>Their previous games are walking simulator type games - Dear EstherHow is this not an immediate red flag to everyone
>>716129112That game was developed 15 years ago, man.
Would you say that Blizzard developing Lost Vikings is a red flag that they can't possibly make a MMORPG like WoW?
>>716129112>>716129224Their most recent release it a walking sim/horror game that is 3-4 hours long (if this video title is correct) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJrxyDko4ns
Looks and sounds good. No action combat. It released a year ago.
>>716128841 (OP)So they'll have to close down when VtMB2 doesn't sell well? That's an odd move
>>716129008>Hoping its good (eventually).Everything they've shown so far is so bad, and it's only getting worse. How you can fuck up a sequel of one of the most beloved cult classic is beyond me, but then you'd need to understand what made VtMB so beloved to begin with. Or you know, play the damn game. Once. Maybe just a little bit. Maybe just Santa Monica.
The absolute retarded dev history and multiple rewrites didn't help, but unless they literally rewrite the game from scratch (again), what they've shown recently is so insanely bad. You can't apply a bandaid on a forest fire.
VtMB 2 is VtMB in nothing but name. You don't choose your character, 4 playable clans, extremely simplified RPG elements, no guns (lol), no exploration, bad characters, and a quirky Forspoken sidekick.
>>716129008>The recent Bloodlines 2 delay is probably exactly due to this self-buyout.No, completely unrelated.
>At any rate, its been interesting watching this development hell rival Duke Nukem Forever.Very different to DNF. It's more like Doom 2016, where Doom 2016 was made using scrapped assets from Doom 4. The new version of Bloodlines 2 has had fairly straightforward development and a clear vision of what it wants to be.
>>716128841 (OP)>>716129616Now that makes me think. I remember the original VTMB devs were kicked or left for some reason by shitty managers and what's not. I'm wondering if managers were from the publishers and not the devs themselves because if that is true then there is a slight hint of hope that they could bring the old devs back.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEYGez6JLZ8
here's an older trailer that I recall was made when the devs from original VTMB were also working on the sequel. It had potential if anything else.
I'm speculating that they gained their independence exactly for that reason, to no longer be under those shitty managers influence and convince the OG devs to comeback and help them. If that is true then another question would remain and that is how they would finance it all without the publisher or how they would finance at all, which leads me to another speculation that.
They did not such much bought their freedom but rather were cast out as even the publisher sees the shitstorm incoming and cut the studio same way you would cut out an infected limb before it kills you. And the publisher gave it away rather just kicking them out specifically so they do not gain any more bad reputation for what is about to come.
>>716129714>you'd need to understand what made VtMB so beloved to begin with.At its heart, VtMB is a walking sim with the most dogshit gameplay you've ever experienced bolted on top.
>>716129714>understand what made VtMB so beloved to begin withThe setting (which is the same), the dialogues (character faces, voice acting, writing), and the lack of other games doing the same thing at the time (ooops, BG3 is basically Bloodlines, but with better combat).
>>716130904>devs from original VTMB were also working on the sequelThe devs in question are one guy and his wife, and they divorced mid development, so... you know. Doubt it.
>>716128841 (OP)What kind of name is "The Chinese Room"?
>>716128841 (OP)>The Chinese Roomi just played still wakes the deep and these were the devs for the game.
this character is not only a fem mechanic, but is ugly, has girlboss attitude and never gets killed off until the very last moment. in fact, she commands your ass later when shit goes down.
>>716131208It's a reference to an AI thought experiment where you have a room where you pass messages in (written in Chinese), and responses come out also written in Chinese. >>716128841 (OP)I just hope they're not being too optimistic about Bloodlines 2 recouping money.

>>716129714>no guns (lol)That isn't correct, though.

>>716135665Can you call it starting from scratch when you have all the assets finished for you?
The game was already set for failure when Paradox forced it to be V5.
VtMB is deeply into Revised, making a sequel for it and having it be in such a radically different edition is like a Hollywood sequel made 20 years later. The values, the culture, the actors everything has changed, you can't expect any sort of real continuity from it, even if you're slapping a recognizable name on it.
It's like those awful Halloween sequels with a geriatric Jamie Lee Curtis and godawful lighting.
And that's not even getting into how truly abysmal V5 is by itself.
If Paradox wanted this shit to succeed it should've at least given it a new name and advertised it as a spiritual sequel.
>>716135665Do you have any actual explanation for WHY he left, if VTMB2 is somehow "his baby"? Or are you just going to regurgitate things back at me, like you are a bot?
>>716135371Mitsoda's version is gone. This is Pinchbeck's game, for better or worse. People need to understand that. Everything good or bad about this game's broader vision of VTM is because he played tabletop VTM and was like, "Yea, you know what this reminds me of? The Sopranos."

She looks the same, but Lou is not the same person. (They even changed her name so she has the name of the real-life person Hardsuit Lou was based on.) They have completely ignored Hardsuit's vision for the game in terms of narrative, themes, characters, gameplay, etc. This is a pretty hard reboot. To the devs, those Hardsuit assets are no different to something they bought off an asset store.

>>716136551As a Tremere too.
You get super reliant on blood theft and blood strike but all the fleshcrafted abominations have toxic blood.
It's funny. One of the reason killing LaCroix is so much easier is that he threw so many humans at you to serve as bloodbags. The Sabbat raid and sewers are exponentially harder because all you fight is vampires you can't drink from (diablerie is bad).
>>716135965>Do you have any actual explanation for WHY he left, if VTMB2 is somehow "his baby"?Because he designed all the gameplay. And all the characters. And wrote all the style guides. And controlled every aspect of the game up until the point the 2023 "Midnight" trailer was created. The character "Phyre" is his creation, and he's very proud of her. It's very similar to how Perfect Dark is Martin Hollis's baby. Hollis left the studio in 1998, and the game released in 2000. But he laid all the groundwork for the game, wrote the design doc, led the team, created Joanna, all that stuff. He left due to creative/financial disagreements with the studio owners. But it was his game, really. And his vision of FPS design is present even though he left (and all the lead devs quit shortly after to go form Free Radical, causing the PD team to have to completely restructure.) The only reason the project exists in the form it does is because he sat down and wrote a big document outlining the gameplay, the story, the atmosphere, the characters, all of it. The people running the studio are working to bring that vision to fruition.
>>716135965>Do you have any actual explanation for WHY he left, if VTMB2 is somehow "his baby"?Because he got tired of running a game developer and wanted to fuck off. Same reason a lot of people like him quit. The chick who WROTE this game has quit game development to go work on her novels.

VtMB was peak urban fantasy. Unfortunately the source material itself was taken over by some of the gayest retards you could find, and looking at how completely fucked the development of VtMB2 has been it's not looking good for managing to recreate that kino.
>>716136928Because we have the trailer from just after he left, and we have modern footage from a few months ago, and it's all still there. The part that likely changed more than anything else was the story. It's clear the story has undergone rewrites. We don't know how major. The game design seems to have changed way less. When he wrote that blog post we didn't have all these publicly released materials that show a game largely the same as its late 2023 version, just more refined.
I feel like this is going to be another success story completely built off the backs of retarded normies loving the shitty modernized gameplay and horribly dumped down RPG elements and story elements. I imagine quite a lot has changed since I left, so I guess I’ll just have to wait and see like the rest of you how it all turns out….">"I secured the title for the studio and did all the initial concept, story and direction on it, but it’s been quite a while since I left the studio so it might well have all changed since then."If he himself doesn't know if his stuff is still in the game, how do YOU somehow know? >>716132642The first dev team had a litteral fat blue hair chick tell during an interview that the first game was problematic and.VtMB2 would be aimed at modern audience, Malkavian were ableist regarding mental illness representation so wouldn't be included and "triggering segment" of the could be skipped.

Then the writer and composer of the first game were fired.
>>716137180The official explanation is that Pinchbeck is focusing on writing novels.

I personally suspect that he got ousted by the (other) studio leadership or Sumo, and they've kept that quiet to avoid embarrassing anyone. Maybe he bad touched someone, maybe he did something that got him in water. I don't know. But studio heads leaving like this happens for a few reasons, and they range from "make the scandal go away" to "got tired of herding chimps".

Either it was never actually "his baby" and he just left for normal reasons, or it actually was "his baby" but got kicked to the curb.
>>716137946>Isn't that his main contribution? No. He didn't actually write the game. That was Sarah Longthorne and two other writers. He came up with the characters and supervised the writing team. This makes it super different to other TCR games where he wrote the whole thing himself.
>There's no androgynous obligatory "phyre" anymoreIt doesn't appear Phyre/Nomad's character has changed all that much. You can track the game's development through the dev diaries that span early 2024 to early 2025.
>>716137981>If he himself doesn't know if his stuff is still in the game, how do YOU somehow know?I've watched the new trailers, that's how. We know that the "Midnight" trailer is his version of the game because he left in July/August and the trailer came out in September.

>>716138709>I will point out that Glass Door reviews do seem to indicate that people preferred when Pinchbeck was in chargeThat makes sense. From what I have read and understood, it seemed like Sumo basically just dumped 100 new devs into his studio and was like "figure it out, bud" but then once Sumo/Paradox didn't think that things were going fast enough and/or the "right" direction, they tried to take more and more control.
That's why I genuinely can't understand why the shills in here keep shouting "THE GAME IS THE SAME AS IT WAS UNDER DAN PINCHBECK!" when it clearly isn't. The employees are unhappy with the studio(and likely the game), and Dan Pinchbeck himself says that he has no idea if any of his stuff is even still being used.

For all we know, Sumo/Paradox could have requested many changes several months before he left, and thus we can't just take a trailer release date as a "that's surely Dan's stuff" sign. And this is not even getting into how Dan himself saying multiple times that he has no idea if any of his stuff is still being used.
>>716139065In fairness, there's some semantics here. Games do change during development.
>The employees are unhappy with the studio(and likely the game),Yes and on. Glass Door is MOSTLY positive. Oddly, no complaints about Paradox. The focus of ire are the people running TCR. >>716139231I get where you're coming from, anon. And I do think you have a point.
If Pinchbeck was ousted due to creative disagreements there is no way in holy fuck that Paradox were ever gonna let that be public because it would have nuked the game's PR for it to be known as "the director was fired, then the game was cancelled, then another studio took over, and that director was fired, and..."
>>716139286>Oddly, no complaints about Paradox>I don't think the relationship between Paradox and the devs is badI didn't mean to specifically claim that Paradox are doing bad things, I was just saying that in general it's clear that someone/something is interfering with TCR. That's why the PC Gamer articles went live on March 25, the day the delay was announced. >>716142612No way it gets delayed again.
If they push it beyond October, it's gonna compete with all the AAA hyper advertised games for the Christmas season, it's gonna get buried by the other games.
If they leave it to next year it's gonna cost them more money and generate even more apathy.
Either they release it October or it goes from an almost certain failure to a disaster.

>>716142732True enough. It does reinforce to me, though, that Activision played a pretty important role in shaping Bloodlines 1 into a flawed but ultimately casual friendly game. The big design issues don't become really noticeable until a few hours in. It has a good tutorial. The controls make sense. It focuses its polish on the opening hub. It has its priorities in order.
Then I remember this new game is published by fucking Paradox and feel a sinking sensation.
>>716143063VtMB2 is a completely different market demo than any of Paradox's other games, so I don't think it would clash with Europa Universalis success that much.

>>716142950I dunno, I think they were still swinging in 2022.
Honestly I only think it started to die down in 2024.
2021 was probably the peak of faggotry it was right after the Nigger Floyd riots and the election, but a bit before the consequences all crashed down.
White voice actors were getting replaced, anything with cops was getting cancelled, studios and such were talking about hiring more niggers and fags, the president was taking about how important trannies were to the nation while trannies showed their surgical botched tits on the White House lawn. One of the first things you see when you wake up in the game is a poster for a band called Phyre.
Some tidbits.
>While early versions had him as a “jaded, Chinatown-style detective,” Thomas says the character clicked once they realized “Fabian is delighted in the world. He finds the world fascinating. He’s that one detective who had a conspiracy theory that there’s vampires and things in the world, and he was proved right.” Fabien also talks exactly like the cheesiest version of a noir detective – think Spider-Man Noir from Into the Spider-Verse – which balances Phyre’s dry, to-the-point style of conversation they picked up when they were turned 400 years ago. It adds a sense of lighthearted humor to a game that is otherwise dark and serious.
>Clothing also affects your interactions on the streets and in the story – characters will treat you differently if you’re wearing something seductive or scary, so it’s functional fashion as well. In one instance, I approached a woman on the street to seduce her into an alley, but it turns out the woman was a sex worker, and Phyre was wearing provocative enough clothing that the stranger assumed I was a competitor moving in on her turf.
>“The two games are not alike,” Bloodlines 2 creative director Alex Skidmore tells me. “We have the code base and everything, but we basically started again because we had a very different vision, I think. There’s more visceral combat, et cetera. We share Seattle. [...] Some of the art we used to give us a sort of leap forward. We very much wanted to make it our own game.”

>>716171278it says male though?
>>716171278They can call themselves whatever they want, but they are biologically male
>>716171043clearly says don't take if male, ergo it's for trans women
>>716171578how does that even make sense?
>>716171578Gender =/= Sex
You were born a male. You will die a male.
>>716171670if you are a trans woman by definition you left behind your maleness
>>716171761i agree wholeheartedly anon

>>716167429>guys like wouldn't it be funny if they used the middle finger!>then it would be really cool if they used telekenesis to fire a gun... instead of using the telekenesis itself as a weapon!zoomers designed this garbage .
>>716171761>Gender =/= SexLol no
That's like saying species =/= kind and that means you can be biologically a human but actually identify as a dog and have to be treated as one

>>716172398so like when christian bakers had their businesses ruined because they dared not bake a cake for faggots?
that kind of silencing?
>it's okay when we do it! n..nazi!
>>716172486Is that confirmed?
>>716171956I like the gun though. Gameplay wise perhaps it lets you shoot and cast spells or carry melee weapons at the same time.
>>716148084>To be fair, you have a Malk in your head. I feel like changing him from thinblood to Malk was partially to placate Malk fans. Then they're even more retarded and off-base than I thought.
>"YOU can't be Malkavian because umm it's like umm problematic but here's a special OC donut steel NPC that can be Malk unlike (You)"What a bunch of fags.
>>716172476Unlikely, because trannies are useful idiots, while dog people are useless idiots.
>>716133365What do vampire pussies smell like anons?
>Can't choose Tzimisce
>Instead have banu literally whos as an option
Fuck off. Unless I can do vicissitude like some fucking pillar men from JJBA, I wont be interested.
>>716172765My guess is that they are going to pull off, "you've been Malkavian all along".
>>716172618I meant to pose that as a question, I have no idea if those songs are gonna be used but was wondering if they would.
>>716172909Protagonist is from Constantinople sadly
>>716172940How does that work with clan powers. Can Malkavians just think themselves into other clans and why arent others picking up on it?
>>716133002> He's writing a book about niggers. Sounds familiar?> Is it about the Obama administration? What did Avellone mean by that?
>2 dlcs post release with one of them changing the gameplay "significantly"
lasombra and malkavian
>>716172183t.secondary. literally a gesture from the trrpg
>>716173045I dunno, you just imagined your powers or something.
>>716173201Malkavian and Nosferatu are the most obvious DLCs to make, both warrant a replay of the game due to their special stuff.
>>716173201Wasnt one dlc standalone, i.e., a separate adventure with a clan?
>>716130997>VtMB is a walking simHalf the game is combat lmao
>>716173201Malkavian, Toreador, or Lasombra
If they're fags they'll do nossies.
>>716172968>Constantinople
>>716147801Isn't that the guy that makes all those tiktoks / youtube shorts about dog breeds?
>>716133002If even one quarter of the things I heard about Richard Bruce Cheney is true, that line is hardly a joke but a matter of fact statement.
>>716128841 (OP)I had no idea this was being made by fucking Chinese Room
What have they done aside from terrible walking simulators?
>>716132359Anarchs aren't anarchists, they have a hierarchy where barons run different parts of anarch territory who are essentially just princes not loyal to the Camarilla, and the only communist vampire we meet says that communism doesn't work for humans but will for vampires only and she's treated as a joke. One of the anarchs is a Vietnam vet who outright calls her a "one of those protestor fucks" he had to deal with when he was still mortal.
VtmB deals with fictional vampire politics between supernatural entities engaging in violence and Machiavellian shadow politics for their own selfish immortal goals. Trying to claim it's a leftist or rightist game is utterly retarded
>>716128841 (OP)>>716128958Same thread, same top comment on twitter
By design no doubt
Who is writing a script to feed to us? Why do they use bots to write the narrative
>>716172872condensate
You know how they are basically a corpse and thus have room temperature
You know how water gathers around bottles who were in the freezer recently.
Wait so the devs are betting that the game will do so well that it will cover the entire cost of developement that was bought by the parent company and if not then they will be the ones who will take the hit instead of the bigass company?
Am I getting this right? Anyways you being an ancient vampire instead of a fledgling sounds interesting. Best of luck.
>>716173930Paradox is the only one taking the hit.
>>716173919If you have condensate in your room on room temperature objects I think you should do something about it.
If anything, this could make vampires feel like silicone dolls, which isn't half bad.
>>716174306How? Didnt the devs buy themselves out to become indie? Paradox taking the hit would mean that they accepted a shit deal that doesnt cover the costs of the game that pilled up so far right before the chance to turn in some money from the game.
>>716172872As if they're constantly on their periods
>>716134109Holy fuck this looks awful
>>716134109First person melee combat always looks awful.
Is this the new footage or the old?
>>716175486Splice mix of old and new
>>716167429New gameplay looks good, but I have zero faith the writing or roleplaying will be any good. Protagonist looks butt ugly as well, male version looks okayish but the chick is gross.
