Aliens invade and take over earth. Not for resources, but to run an absurd reality TV show. The Protagonist, Carl, enters it by accident without any pants, which the AI running the show decides will be His Thing from then on. The RPG mechanics exist specifically as a conceit of the game show in areas under the control of the AI. It contrasts the zany absurdity of the premise with the grim reality that they're trapped in a death game for the amusement of the equivalent of alien zoomers who see them as subhumans.

Yeah, Lit RPG is our "light novel" slop. I think Carl is fun, but it'll never be considered "good".
Also, the fanbase are the worst thing you'll ever see. It's a sea of trannies and blue hairs, which is weird because some of the villains are women and they die as horribly as the men. I'm on book 5 of this and it hasn't turned me off so far. But it's pretty much just western isekai that takes a while to get to the power fantasy part. How long before they fuck it up with a bad romance subplot?

Can we agree that the last book was kinda bad. Having most of the plan discussed in that little war room, hidden from the reader isn't very good writing. There's only so much you can keep hidden without the reader not even understanding the goals, and this last book blew past it. Also, trying to tie up so many storylines while making new ones just made the book feel bloated. Hopefully the next one is better.

An actual game based on DCC would be awesome, very hard to pull of though.

I've never liked movies/books with extreme violence/gore/sex. I mean I'm okay with action and characrers suffering, but stuff like this and The Boys just has no value in my eyes.

Book 5 is the best one. 6 is okay, although the audiobook is great due to that guy who voiced Kronk in Emporer's New Groove being one of the villains, and book 7 was disappointing but floor 9 was never going to live up to expectations.
I dropped the series first attempt because the first book is so fucking bad. It got so much better from book 2 and onwards though.
