Phones have been capable of running good, visually impressive games that would outperform many beloved 3d consoles for years, yet they still only make intentional garbage. This bugs me. Consider me bugged. I've been bugged for years.

Games are made based on consumer demand. The audience that wants to play high intensity high graphical fidelity games on their phone is fairly minimal. People who want good graphics would go places other than their phone for it, and phones in general do not lend themselves to high intensity games.

So what gets made for them is simple, short games like turn based RPGs and puzzle games.

This isn't hard to work out.

The Switch is not a phone. It's a dedicated gaming device. Yes, it's basically a tablet, but it's got a lighter OS and built in support for controls and the promise of support from one of the biggest game devs in the world.

No one says "people don't want to play games portable". It's that they don't want high intensity, high graphical fidelity games on the device that has no tactile controls and a heavy OS that makes games chug.
