He returned from his community ban with sob story explanations for his prior behavior, that being that he has PTSD from the Ugoslavian war and also that seeing god after the car crash made him hate boobies. He made a thread about "Burying the hatchet", but in that thread he outright lied about not shitposting on /v/ during his meltdown and deleted posts proving otherwise. Some posters may or may not have been banned, too. On top of that, he went on another deletion rampage during that ordeal, which INCLUDES the hatchet thread. Personally for me, just as before, it's not about whether or not he's being nice, it's about his behavior being erratic and incoherent. I'm afraid he's still severely unwell.

Dev had a cute dorky game, redid it to be shittier, released final chapter that was bad, started calling everyone a niggerfaggot on steam forums and unders steam reviews and also on /v/ and just generally raving like a methhead, got banned from steam community for like a week or two, returned, claimed to have mellowed out, tried to explain the plot of the last chapter and why it was so shit (IT WAS ALL IN LE HEAD), and went on to pretend to be normal again, but is still acting in an unstable and erratic manner.
Oh, and he got into a car accident that nearly turned his head into a liveleak clip, which resulted in wide speculation that this sudden shift in personality and level of intelligence stems from that ordeal. When I asked him post-meltdown if his health is okay he permabanned me for harassment.

Bit of a stretch, considering I caught a permaban when I asked that question last time. But that was then. What matters is the now:
The worst part by far is 'All in le head'. Technically not all, just the parts that matter, but still. Players cared about the misfits, their story arcs, and they didn't quite care about Ichor and his borderline nonexistent pressence throughout the story. All in le head can sometimes work if you make it so the actual meaningful events are true and the perception of them may be skewed, like what Spec Ops The Line did (awful game btw but it did nail that part), but if you make it so the entire adventure and all the liked characters and liked events were the Stenographer's delusion - it's the exact kind of "All in Le Head" that people despise and for a good reason.
I don't know if this can be salvaged at this point, since according to your lore explanation this entire story was built around the misfits and the fantasy setting being fake, but I also don't see any way of making it worth the effort to redo the 3rd chapter other than to retcon the delusion and Jeremy's (the author) novel and make the fantasy land a part of the actual setting, which can then create massive complications for the rest of your setting since it appears to be more or less the Vile World and our real world in it and there's no funny fantasy land.
Meanwhile, the idea with the Stenographer doppelganger itself isn't actually bad. Repurposing the final twist to be that the Stenographer is actually living a nice fulfilling life within the actually real fantasy world with the actually real misfits while the corpse of the man he's impersonating, the man everyone *thinks* they're friends/lovers with, is rotting in the attic could work, I think. Just don't forget that in the original chapter 1 that you returned Tonica rummaged around in the attic. Maybe you can tie that in with her somehow.

As someone who has been around the game (Ruza) for a great chunk of it's existence, seeing Stroj get better makes me feel so much genuine happiness that I cannot put it into words.
I remember the times before the discord, before Stroj joined, when he did, the first fall, the first comeback, the second fall, all of it. Stroj was/is (I don't know the exact words to describe) a great friend, someone to look up to, when he was in the right mind, he was an amazing person.

With all that being said, after reading this thread I believe that this may really be a comeback. Corruption of Champions has one I recall. Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5 have a girl that loosely counts. Castlevania games have a couple variants. I don't know of much else that has them in a good way. There doesn't feel like enough media with them exists.
