Both still have more players than STALKER 2.
Now that the modding tools for 2 are out, will modders make Anomaly/GAMMA obsolete, or are modders not interested in STALKER 2?
>>716136254 >just spend hours and hours picking up 3 bullets off of enemies at a time and scrounging through non-functional weapons until you start to actually have fun
No, I don't think I will.
>>716136996
yes that's the fun part of stalker. the hobo phase in the OG's was the best part too. afterwards in the OGs where you have exoskeleton, 5 guns, 1000 bullets and 500 medkits in your inventory it becomes significantly less interesting.
>>716137610 >the hobo phase in the OG's was the best part too
wasn't much of a thing really. in SoC you could walk out of rookie village and wipe the military checkpoint to have an AK at the start of the game. even then you'd have a basic setup by the time you reach rostok. pretty sure CoP starts you with an alright gun/suit. can't remember how the start of CS felt.
>>716136072 (OP)
Pretends to be hardkawrr realism mod but in practice it's just pile of contrivance designed to be a slog for the sake of slog. >haha what if all enemies were armed with guns that are about to explode FC2 style except they dont get any downsides of that and can just magdump you no problem >ofc if YOU pick up the gun it will jam after a single round hehehehe tough shit
Ive heard IWP is better
>>716138464
Weird how games like Starsector can have gameplay that makes fucking sense while still having meaningful progression, if you only played GAMMA you'd think it was impossible
>>716138464
idgaf about 'progression'. this is what i mean by slog for the sake of slog. "you need to WORK, and work HARD to get a gun that works" it's a cheap way to get you hooked like a narcotic
>>716138338 >hardkawrr realism mod but maintaining firearms costs almost as much as buying new ones and guns degrade at 100 times the rate actual firearms do
You can put like 8-10,000 rounds into most modern rifles before you need to change the barrel ffs why does my gun turn to dust after 200
>>716138464
It's a pitfall of the freeplay formula, Gamma needs to slow your progress in several ways (broken items, reputation, toolkits etc.)
The main games don't have this issue because they have more control over when you access certain areas or fight certain enemies through story progress.
>>716141706
There's too few enemies, I can kill everything and it got boring. I just need a way to add more enemies then it would be perfect but I couldn't find any way.
>>716138975 >You can put like 8-10,000 rounds into most modern rifles before you need to change the barrel ffs why does my gun turn to dust after 200
Because 99,9% of "hardcore survival" games/mods are developed by 600-pound trannies that haven't been outside in about 6 years on average. And i only say 99,9%, because Road to Vostok exists.
>>716138975 >why does my gun turn to dust after 200
Tbh that's stalker base game too, so if anything that part it's the arcade element inherited from the originals.
>>716138338
IWP is nice, not too much fucking around required to have fun, but it's based on x64 port CoC so it doesn't have a lot of bug fixes and improvements that come with anomaly. For example, in the passage between Wild Territory and Yantar the spawn point if kind of fucked if you go through it the opposite way.
>>716143935
GSC was literally gone and modders have been having a field day with the stalker games for quite a while now. most big mods are standalone now.
pretty sure when GSC came back they had some rule about mods pointing people to the main games but I don't know of them ever going after anyone.
>>716143935
Pepsiman got rich anyway and probably didn't care too much as long as he got a new sportscar.
The devs who actually made the games didn't stay in GSC for long because it was borderline slavery, so I don't see why would they even want to stop people from enjoying what they have worked hard to make. It's not like they get paid if they stop "piracy".
>>716137610 >yes that's the fun part of stalker
No that part never existed. Within 30 minutes you have an AK74u and you only go up from there very quickly. People like you who insist stalker is some slow burn shooter hasn't played the originals and just downloaded anomaly and think that's what stalker is when it isn't.
>>716145189 >AK74u
im playing vanilla stalker rn (have never tried anomaly or any other stalker game) is AK74u considered better than normal AK? i also think that gun is kinda hobo, the accuracy is ass and only once i got to the bartender to buy scoped IL 86 i feel like i finally trivialized(?) the game. Maybe it will change i have no progressed much farther yet, the underground area to strelok stash and then getting documents with basic AK was absolute hell though.
I played single player Tarkov to scratch my STALKan itch a couple months ago. Was cool, but STALKERs in a league of its own, and I'm eager to go back when I next get the itch
>>716145884
I really don't understand all the comparisons between Stalker and Tarkov/SPT, or how playing one would scratch the itch of the other.
Tarkov has almost none of the things I look for in Stalker
>>716146080
I agree that they're incomparable when you get into the weeds, but they are superficially similar. Without much happening in the STALKER world, it's understandable to look for an alternative when people get bored of anomaly/gamma.
Hoping 2's modding scene picks up.
>>716138338 >Pretends to be hardkawrr realism mod but in practice it's just pile of contrivance designed to be a slog for the sake of slog.
Probably the best description of this dogshit genre of mods I've read so far
>>716146960
yes, its still an 8/10 (minus points for the knockouts and the talking zombie quest chain) which is a lot for a story mod compared to all the trash that is out there being praised only by author's botnet
>>716146080
I feel like both SPT and modded Anomaly have the butthole clenching moment-to-moment gameplay that you usually can only get from multiplayer games.
>>716147440 >>716147028
I will say that SPT takes some work to be even remotely enjoyable, otherwise, you're getting 1 tapped by scavs/PMC's you can't even see. >set same PMC aggression to 0% using the value modifier mod >get the radar mod >try to get the rangefinder ASAP
I think those were the main ones that made it a significantly less shit experience for me. Don't care if it makes me a casual, shitting my pants to every sound, hiding in corners and waiting for squads of PMCs in end game gear to clap my cheeks isn't fun.
>>716148514
spt has this weird bug where if you kill anyone, someone will *always* show up to investigate the area.
This coupled with infinitely spawning scavs can lead to stupidity where you can camp a chokepoint and literally the entire map will show up one by one to die in a single hallway or staircase.
Fun for a bit but it gets old fast.
>>716136553 >or are modders not interested in STALKER 2?
given that the development kit takes up over 700GB of space I don't think anyone is going to bother modding that piece of shit
>>716136553
stalker 1 has full source code available, so it has more modding potential. It also has the gritty post-soviet zone feel that everyone likes
>>716136996
Or how about >Get quests >Head towards the quests >Scavange a gun you like that aint rusted along the way >Keep disassembling every other gun you find from the same rifle family until you get the components you need at adecent repairability level >Fix your gun with the components you got >Finish quest >Now you have a good gun and money for ammo in less than 1 hour
Woah so hard btw.
>>716136254
I don't know why does this produce so much seethe here. I tried it, and yeah it's bloated, but after making some adjustments to fit my preferences it made for a pretty fun sandboxy experience.
>>716136072 (OP) >anomaly/gamma thread on /v/ number 1000000
yawn
it was already said once, but here is it again.
Anomaly itself is ok. It gained a huge community, especially in the west, for whatever reason, but this huge community does not really create anything other than weapon addons and other shit that does not really do anything interesting.
The amount of quest addons can be counted on one hand
>>716136072 (OP)
I finally played Stalker and more than anything im confusedbas to why this game got such a huge fanbase. Its not bad but its also not some amazing thing, the world is also pretty linear. I really thought it was an exploration based game, where you discover mysteries and has weird horror, at least thats how it was portrayed by the fanbse but its really not.
>>716136072 (OP)
Base Anomeme is autistic, but can be modded to your taste to be less of a chore or to make it look nicer, etc.
Gayma is designed to be grindy milsim dogshit.
>>716160501
What surprised me the most is that huge parts of the game are linear and i mean literally a straight line. There is very little exploration in the actual game, or even interesting stuff to find, you go from area to another via corridors. Its like they made all this environments then forgot to fill them up.
>>716160743
That's why I like STALKER Complete 2009 mod, the emptiness is filled with people and mutants infighting, like platoons of them. It's funny because they travel the same way you see real soldiers traveling in the Ukraine war today, in single file and separated out.
>>716154272
bandits have shitty guns but obviously proper stalkers come better equipped
there is no solution to the way gamma does progression other than putting actual AI in the game to control NPCs or going hardcore mode 1 life 1 death
technology ain't there yet
>>716157483 >but this huge community does not really create anything other than weapon addons and other shit that does not really do anything interesting
That's Stalker modding in general, has nothing to do with Anomaly.
I mean if you could go back in time, get dropped on your head as a baby or luck out and get born with down syndrome - that will let you enjoy all the incredibly shitty story mods and related crap that get released occasionally, but I still think it's better being normal and having a semblance of taste.
>>716161942
I'm not derailing, I just think it's interesting how a decade ago I thought it was just weird mod coding that made them travel like that but that's how they actually do it in a modern warzone in the same setting.
>download IWP >take quest from first NPC right next to me >go kill le mutants >"huh it's probably dogs or boars, surely" >it's a fucking controller >with a pseudogiant nearby
