Why would i try other weapons when i need 500 smithing stones to make them viable instead of just googling the meta to not fall for the sunk cost fallacy

Yes, the upgrade system for normal vs. unique weapons is fucking retarded. Not sure what they were thinking.

You can get infinite upgrade materials and infinite runes and you can respec your character 18 times per new game cycle. If anything this game doesn't lock you into your choices enough.

Just do a new run for every build. Anyway, you can get 4-5 weapons online even without all the smithing stones if you know what you're doing, which you don't. Or just don't play if you think it's not fun. Go ahead and filter yourself.

yeah, this is one of the biggest weaknesses in these games
there's a lot of pressure early on to choose my final weapon
so, on blind playthroughs, I either commit early and get lucky because I enjoy the weapon
or I commit early and I then have to suffer through a good chunk of the game with a weapon I hate until I get to the point I can upgrade a better weapon
or I don't commit and I just accept that I'm going to be underpowered until I finally find a weapon I THINK I'll enjoy
fuck me for trying to play these games blind, though
at this point I really think it's just lazy design to obscure so many of the mechanics and lock you in and out of progression paths like this
