There was no reason to let Midway redesign the monsters, the weapons or really anything else. This was the start of the cacodemon ruination.
I played Necromantic Thirst and I slogged through the first episode before packing it in. Archviles, Revenants and Cyberdemons everywhere in every map (and always in close quarters). It got old very fast and the WADs levels weren't unique enough to suffer through more of it.
I also played Sunset Irrelegion and it was much better although I wish it was longer than 15 maps. The levels were just starting to get interesting and then it was over. The fights and levels were much better designed in this WAD. Not the best of the best, but very enjoyable.

yeah this also if you die you need to restart the game and start again at the first level. and you need to progress through the entire game this way in one playthrough without dying on UV to have beaten it. also you cant have eaten anything with caffeine in it because that is a buff. in fact if you havent done a 24 hour fast it isnt legitimate either. also you should be naked while playing the game also your clothing might give you some kind of benefit we havent thought of yet.
Doom 3 was the game that evolved the franchise's formula the most but we are not ready to have this conversation yet because of marketers who try to promote the newest thing and contrarians who refuse to accept that a game can evolve without adding more enemies on the screen.

well doom didnt even really change from doom 1 to doom 2 that much did it? it was more like an expansion of doom 1. it had more weapons and more enemies which is why all wads are made for doom 2. but did they really change much about the game or the engine between doom 1 and 2? as far as i see it doom 1 is really more like doom 0.5 and doom 2 is doom 1.0. or doom 1 is doom 1.0 and doom 2 is like doom 1.5 or whatever.

I do. I prefer classic 1990s Doom with wads and a few mods for flavour.
I'm starting to like Quake more though, if only for the 3D movement and the verticality. Plus it has an atmosphere nothing else has been able to capture, probably the result of it being a last minute unholy mash up of dark fantasy RPG assets crammed into an FPS.

AVP1-2 marine gameplay probably inspired carmack for this decision.

In fact put doom 3 under a LCD vs a CRT, one guy at /vr/ made tests, and shadows on the CRT screen as the lightning felt better, while on a LCD screen of that time there were some loss of quality issues.

I think vanilla old dooms are ass. I grew up with Half-Life, UT and Q3 and not having mouse look with those slow enemies in dooms feels boring. I do love Build game however but those have mouse look.

using a source port like gzdoom has free aim enabled by default for a reason, theres basically no reason to not have it enabled and very few maps take advantage (as in screwing the player) of no free aim. legacy of rust does it quite frequently with walls of cacos so those guys knew what they were doing, but otherwise literally doesnt matter. just dont snipe imps from a thousand miles away
