I'm going to be honest here and say that a lot of my reasoning is purely superficial.
I played Yu-gi-oh as a kid briefly because I enjoyed the early anime, and my school banned pokemon cards. So we turned to Yu-gi-oh instead as we had not yet found Magic.
I mostly "grew out of it" for Yu-gi-oh. I played Magic after that for a little bit, then mostly quit TCGs in general. Though admittedly I still do have a bit of a soft spot for them.
Regarding Yu-gi-oh specifically. I think a lot of what I dislike is the art direction overall. Looking back at even old cards, and newer stuff. A lot of the monsters to me just come off like off-brand digimon sometimes or like a kid just though "dragon man with dragon armor and a dragon sword. That will be cool" I know its a kids card game, so I don't hold that against them. It just doesn't appeal to me I guess anymore. I also absolutely hate the card censorship like on Harpie Lady. No idea if that still happens though. Even as a massive weeb who still loves his chinese cartoons aimed at teenagers, the designs just don't land for me. Though OP's image is cute I must admit. I like that one somewhat.
From a gameplay perspective, I've been out of touch with the rules for years now, but seeing some recent card descriptions just scratching my head with the literal text walls.

That said, I dip my toes back in now and again, mostly to magic because in America thats the only TCG you can easily find people to play with aside from Yu-gi-oh. Though if I lived in an area with a bigger tcg market, I'd probably consider trying out Flesh and Blood or something that caters a little more toward my weeb taste like Grand Archive.
Weis Schwarz may be more popular, but the fact that all the cards are just "screen shots" seems lazy and uninspired so I don't care for it. Same with some other anime tcgs like Grand Union. One thing i appreciate YGO/MtG/Pokemon for is that they all do have original artwork.

The walls of text kinda gets to me too anon. I suppose it's not as much a hindrance to me, because I've spent so much time learning I basically just know what the cards do, but that doesn't help new and returning players at all. The speed of the game has shot through several roofs at this point compared to what it was back when we were kids, and that has already discouraged even friends of mine from rejoining after being tourney players only 12 years ago.

That being said, I also play multiple card games to keep my brain on point, Shadowverse, Pokรฉmon, Master Duel, to name a few, so I'm kind of biased in that I just wanna understand more and more card games, I'm gonna start breaking into MTG once I can convince myself that magic isn't lame.

Also good news about OPs image, the archetype of girls are all literal virtual clones and look exactly the same, wearing different outfits. Theme is Alice in Wonderland but with computer viruses and Malware called Maliss (Mโˆ€LICE, in the Japanese version).

Cards are still censored to hell and half of them are just covering basic features humans have like cleavage or thigh folds. Kinda silly to me, since this games average player is ~30 years old. But hey, I hope whatever games you play you enjoy, man. Thanks for the insight, brother.

Yep, the play like Floowandereeze but somehow LESS honest. See third paragraph of >>716143964, the theme is neat and the arts aren't terrible, a bit generic in the face, ironically. But the deck does so much that people are running silver bullets for Maliss specifically, which seems weird considering it's Bo1 format.

Yea I don't understand the localizers at KoA, Mโˆ€LICE is much better looking even with the upside down A looks cooler. I think they might be going with a "it's gotta be easier to understand" type angle, but that's a blind assertion in the face of whatever the fuck "Maliss" is supposed to evoke as opposed to the former.

Same shit happened to Argostars, which is "ARGS" in Japanese. Looks way worse in English.

This has an effect I believe where if your opponent blows him up with an effect, you gain control of all of their monsters. PoY can force change a monster effect to do just that, so I think it will trigger it. I don't know how well those archetypes will fit together though.

>is there a new alice in wonderland themed deck or something?

Yes, the deck's original name is Mโˆ€LICE, which is a wordplay of "malware" and "Alice". Pretty much an Alice in Wonderland-themed deck where the characters are living computer viruses and malware. Pic related is Cheshire Cat.

Unfortunately in usual TCG fashion, the deck was terribly localized as "Maliss", and even Cheshire Cat was changed to Chessy Cat.

I thought labrynth was doing worse but the traditional furniture variant playing dogmatika punishment and the furnitures is better than I thought. Unironically 6-2 on master and one of the games I lost was actual skill issue on my part because I played poorly.
I slotted a few superpolys and it has helped MASSIVELY against some decks.

I feel like people dismissed a lot of playable decks because they were missing one card in the event.
I played Umi Stun and it was fine despite losing the whale (i.e. the game closer and reason their low Atk doesn't matter) and Manko Control seemed fine with just an extra few Ha-Re/Dance cards to compensate for the lack of Ohime and Kaiju.
I got smacked up by some crazy guy playing Morganite Wetlands Beatdown and it was a fun match

if it worked like that sure but every event is more playing whatever skirts the restrictions best rather than creative deck building, and that's defintely konami's intent since nearly every event we've had coincided with a deck release that slots well into the latter

I wanted to play runick (it's not meta) and everything was banned.
I wanted to play paleozoic (it's not meta) but the good traps are banned.
But then spright (not meta) was full power besides the links and if you opened spright blue uninterrupted people scooped on the spot.
It was ass and every single game was either the suship loaner, the naturia loaner, goblin bikers or sharks.

It's decent as an engine in other decks, but has a bad reputation for being put in Runick. They're good for drawing, it's not hyper consistent, but comes with some cheap in archetype interactions as well.

Fun fact "Fur Hire" cards are explained differently in card text as if they were mercenaries, where most cards read for example "special summon one 'X' monster." the fur hire cards all read like such "special summon one monster 'Fur Hire'."

Yeah and that's extremely fucking cringe. Genuinely hope whoever thought this shit up got fired. The pun itself isn't even funny but the deliberate decision to mess with standardized formatting just to make the joke work is sickening.

This would be a real deck if it had a card to fusion without needing to move a card to the right spot. Maybe an in-archetype Doomed Dragon since you can't summon Doomed Dragon with Vaylantz cards since pends on the field cant be sent to the GY unless their summon is negated or they're detached as xyz material.

It's pretty fun, and the Runick Spright variant is the strongest. It's actually really fun to pilot, since it can play through alot of interruptions given you draw a half decent hand and has fallback wincons in runick incase you get floodgated.
This isn't as popular, but you can jury rig it to run well with lvl 3 support like terrortop to insulate plays or you can straight up use psychic ss cards w/ emergency teleport if you're running more lvl 3 fur hires so you can easily bridge into the lv 3 toolbox or archetypes like Goblin Bikers.
Fur Hire functions best as a supplement to other decks since through Rafale or Folgo they can draw into their starters/ extenders and in general synergize with alot of different things since they can get bodies out without any SS locks, so it's super fun to experiment.
Definitely try it out, it's fun.

Search for "Joshua Schmidt handtrap" on youtube, should be one of the first results. I don't think you'll have a good time with it in the current meta though
Something like furniture lab with chaos hunter and a bunch of cards you want to discard like the GY effect traps would probably work better right now
