I lost my old savegame during a reinstallation of Windows. Should I play the Knight class again? Or take Royalty? I want to experiment at least somewhat with the magic system of the game. But Royalty starts with the regen ring, which makes it too easy. Would it take too long to find the ring in the game or get an equivalent item for a faith build?
Also should I keep anything in mind, when playing online?

This is my first Souls game and I am honestly amazed at how good this game is.

Demon's Souls hits different.
Royalty also starts with the lowest level, giving you the most freedom to create the character you want. The ring is strong, but really, you mostly die due to a couple of hits in a short time, or by falling down. Regeneration is convenient, not game breaking. Unless you get really high amounts of HP.

If you're playing a caster, you're already on an easy mode, literally no difference whether you do it with royalty or not, may as well save yourself the hassle and start with fragrant ring

Spice is both inexpensive and easy to farm, just spend some time in Latria if you want to play without the FP regeneration ring.

Fragrant ring is like 1 mp per 2 seconds. It loses its meaning after early game anyway, there are far better ways to use the slot.

Yeah, there's not much point to wasting a ring slot on MP regen when you could boost magic damage instead, especially since there is a free Crescent Falchion in 4-1.

Fucking love the crescent upgrade path. The crescent broad sword was such a great weapon to have the last time I played a mage.

Blessed weapon + adjudicators shield and regenerators ring is extremely powerful.
You basically have to go out of your way to die.

Stop thinking about balance, the game just isn't very hard if you stack certain items. Faith build can stack so much HP regen you basically become unkillable. Just play the game as you go and enjoy it.

Demon's Souls just isn't the same if you aren't getting Firestorm cheesed by Old Monk.
