When gamedevs will be made of people that have actual passion and talent instead of onions riddled millenials that have grown up on trash franchises like star wars.

I wonder how many comments mentioned Avowed. anyway this is why people still play Shitrim, because nobody else is even making first-person open-world fantasy games where you can just get lost

ASOIAF is a high fantasy setting that became low fantasy through a series of monumental catastrophes, LOTR is a high fantasy setting going through catastrophes that will ultimately remove magic from the world and turn it low fantasy

In most stories the female warrior either gets raped as a backstory, explaining why they decided to become warrior, and or gets raped in the story. Or is saved from rape by the hero.
They're rape bait and damsel in distress, but cooler.
>>716157404 >became low fantasy through a series
Not that anon but it becomes more high fantasy. More dragons, more white walkers and more use of magic. You have Arya becoming a waith, armies of whit walkers, giants, an undead dragon, other dragons, Jon Snow resurrecting and all the other magic stuff with zombie greggor and Melisandre and that dude that can ressurect himself.

This pics have like 30-40 2pixel lines for houses in the distance.
In a real video game you'd need actual houses with npcs with dialogue
Same reason why Bethesda towns are small. The alternative is Ubisoft/Rockstar/CDPR clone-people towns.

Yeah the 2D aspect stokes imagination but the thing killing fantasy games is the uninspired content, there's simply no way to fill an entire world with engaging content that can match what people imagine when they see shit like this
>>716160148 >>716160357
reminds me of this image I made ages ago. these things might look nice in a video or picture, but they'd likely quickly lose their splendor when translated to a game
a nice image can capture the imagination unlike anything else, that's a large part of their appeal
I still wish games looked like this and >>716154713 aesthetically, but nothing will ever be as cool as what's in my head when I see these images
>>716160465
Oh so you're saying you'd like instanced zones where only the main alley is available for walking but from the outside it looks huge and intricate.
That's interesting.
>>716160148
the picture depth is flawed, just look at the road.
But i get the feeling behind the post, open worlds games are either packed with useless shit or barren land of nothingness with very little content "checkpoint".
it's not like in some other linear adventure game where you see your goal getting closer and closer while you advance through the level.

no i'm not saying that at all daggerfall doesn't do that, but i actually don't mind when games do that, e.g. final fantasy 12 does exactly that where there are incomprehensibly large cities but you just walk down one hallway, that's fine by me
bethesda's modern day thing where "all the content has to be real and meaningful" (an idea they've never delivered on) doesn't do it for me, cities that are supposed to be massive and sprawling having 8 houses where most npcs still only have 3-5 lines of dialogue isn't enough for the illusion
>>716161101
Wait, if you don't want small instanced zones or bethesda style small towns.. do you want gta/witcher3 clone towns? Or Arkham/Middle-Earth ghost towns?
I haven't played Daggerfall yet, only Arena
>>716162123
daggerfall settlements are real worldspaces you can walk around in, small settlements might be 10-20 houses, but large cities are hundreds or thousands of houses and you can walk in every one and talk to an npc in them if you want to, but it's just set dressing you're not actually meant to
it's background scenery, that's it
if you've played witcher 3 novigrad is somewhat similar
i was saying i like clone people settlements because some half-assed "real" small settlement like morrowind/oblivion/skyrim doesn't work, the npcs feel just as much of paper cutouts, but without setting the scale of the world properly
>>716162573
Are you asian/indian/arab btw?
Because their art is usually like that. Lots of extra details without much meaning behind them but which blend together into a whole. Whereas western style tends to be more focused on singular clearly separable idea-objects.

this is one of the things ai would actually be good for yea, some sloppy real time voice model thrown on a speech model, then a good world procgen system like daggerfall has could work, daggerfall has literally thousands of npcs there's no way you could write meaningful dialogue for them, but having them pick some random topic they care about and generate some bullshit for it would be fine
this is the shit that makes me wish bethesda stuck with the daggerfall system and kept refining it, rather than todd convincing zenimax to switch to gamebryo
>>716162932
no i'm american i just feel unimmersed when i'm told very small worlds are large, in morrowind it's one thing because the fog is so close and movespeed is so low that you can't really get the scale for how insanely small the world is, but oblivion and skyrim everything is just seconds away from everything else, i live in bumfuck nowhere innawoods and me walking to the next closest town is bigger than the entirety of skyrim + oblivion + morrowind combined
>>716160764 >This is the punjab 5000 megaEngine, it can depict anything with ultra realistic details
What if I want more art direction and less realism? >Noooooooooo saaaaar you can't do thaaaat!
>>716159178
This. Magic comes back to the world slowly but surely, as winter comes, the wights march south, a Targaryen gets dragons for the first time in a century, and a creepy raven grandpa adopts a shota into his mystical ways. Oh, and a loony pirate wants to summon Cthulhu.

Love me some Fall from Heaven.
It's too bad it never got the polish it deserves, since it's a Civ IV mod.
Hillariously there is an immense overlap with ASOIAF, so if Martin kicks the bucket, you can deduct the endings
