>content drip>powercreepMost gachas end up becoming or go through periods where they are very stale. You can pick up some momentum wanting to progress the story or go to the next zone, but you're trapped for 6mo-1yr with nothing really going on because they have to push updates on a specific release schedule that coincides with new banners.
And yea, powercreep of new units is a big one that doesnt really happen nearly as often with non-gacha games. The business model revolves around making sure you need to roll for newer units or you are much less likely to spend. Some games will go back and fix older units or rerelease them in a new form to get them up to par, but many dont.
Gacha is in a weird place. For it to be a good game, i needs to have a good combination of gameplay, story, and mechanics - but when you make a good game its pretty much never made better (and usually made worse) by the fact its a gacha. We're in this weird point in time where gachas are realizing they kind of have to be good games in order to compete because its not just a gimped mobile sector anymore/phones can play real games now - so you end up getting games that could ba really amazing standalone but and up fizzling out and overstaying their welcome because of gacha mechanics.
