They didn't use current popular celebrities they used people heavily associated with 80's culture, something the devs all grew up on. Mr T. was in in A-Team and Rocky 3, Ozzy was in Black Sabbath, Chuck Norris in action movies. Nobody was saying "OMG I'm gonna buy WoW cause Ozzy is in it" the commercials were done for silly advertisement when the target audience actually still invested in the game.
