Only recently learned that the yellow DK64 cartrige I have own for like 15+ years was actually a special edition, all this time I thought DK64 cartriges were banana yellow by default.

The connectors for the pins are located inside the housing for the cart reader, which itself is soldered on both sides of the board. Further compounding the difficulty is that one one side the solder points are joined right next to aluminum electrolytic capacitors which will die if you expose them to high temps. With this kind of fine solderwork I would usually heat the board up before working on it, but that risks burning those capacitors out. I wouldn't wanna fuck with this unless I had an already broken Switch 2 to fuck around with and practice on until I was comfortable working with it. Way too much shit that can break if you aren't aware it is there or aren't extremely careful.

have you never opened a switch 1 or many other consoles before? the cartridge readers are never fully sealed and you can always poke shit though them. Hell even if it was you could easily pry the cart out by using a tiny drill and like a dental pick by putting a small hole in the top of the cart then pulling it out. Just because you dont know how to repair or maintain old shit doesnt mean its impossible.

In the US it was a similar situation to Amiibo Festival (kind of) where only the first run was supposed to be special (Yellow for DK64 and with the Digby amiibo in Amiibo Festival) but they made the first run so big that the "regular" version never got released.

This would be a problem everywhere if it weren't for the fact other console don't have games
