I've tried playing WoW in the past but private servers were a bit shit back then (over a decade ago)
What are the best private servers these days? I'm more of a casual when it comes to MMOs. I don't want to commit to a guild and shit

Project Epoch is launching in a few days, it's Vanilla with a few changes.
Turtle WoW is quite popular, also Vanilla with changes.
Ascension is a custom version of WoW where you can choose abilities from different classes and build your own class.
Mistblade if you want to play Mists of Pandaria, but it's probably dead now that MoP Classic launched.
Netherwing is TBC, but TBC Classic is launching soon so this is probably going to die as well.

Did this channel ever make updated videos of classic zones? A few of the zone videos are based on the cata versions and they're fucking awful. Accurate to what the cata zones are like, granted, but that means they're fucking awful.

Anyway for me it's Azuremyst Isle, a supremely comfy zone and one of the game's few coniferous forest zones which is some nice variety, even if it's blue.

chromiecraft is a wotlk-based progression server that's pretty much at the end of TBC progression, and right now it's having a pretty decent surge of activity due to DKs just being made available a few weeks ago and northrend/lvl80 finally getting a release window after like 2 years of being in outland/lvl70. The server peaks at around 500 players right now but it's cross faction and there's a good number of active raid guilds that are always pugging players, so it's pretty easy to get into raiding when you hit max level.

It's an old server and the community is pretty well established, but it's welcoming of new players and there's very few no fun allowed sweatlords on there. PVP is kind of dead though which is the one thing that sucks there.

It's pretty much the only private server I still go back to these days.
