Ridley is fucking lame, not only he's canonically dead, a fact that most secondaries who come from Smash don't even realize but he was never been the last boss, he would either work for the real big bad (Mother Brain) or be an annoying but surpasable obstacle before the bigger menace like the Metroid Prime (2 times), this isn't even mentioning Metroid is a story that actually has linearity and is dark enough to actually kill its villains, they already exhausted all the decent ways to bring him back such as a robot (in an unnecessary sequence for a remake) as a virus mimicking him and lastly a mindless clone (in the worst game of the franchise). Any other way of bringing him back would be Palpatine-level shit and a disservice to the whole franchise, he's something Samus surpassed long ago.

Yes, but Ridley murdered Samus' parents and ate her mother, sent her into a PTSD so bad she wanted her friends to kill her so she can escape it, and refuses to stay dead until his final defeat in Super, and even then he returns as a clone and an X-parasite copy to continue haunting Samus. And he was the final boss in Samus Returns. Yeah, it's extremely likely he's not coming back, but he's still left a long legacy inextricably linked with Samus' story.

Go play or watch some Jungle Beat to understand how bad it was, no game franchise had such an identity erasure game like that one. It took that colossal failure plus two Retro games pushing the boundaries with confirmed restrictions to get where we are for them to realize that yes, Rare made DK what he is but they owned that identity now. So its no surprise that when a game changes an established 20 year character design you can feel that is a second, worse JB in the making (though by the time stuff like the other kongs showing up in previews started those fears should have subsided).
