I tried out Smite 2 because I finally got a gaming pc. I played like 5 matches to learn the game, and in every one some mad autist on my team would lose their mind because I wasn't playing right. Uninstalled. I think MOBA is a dead genre that I'll avoid until I get Leauge of Legends classic.

thats more of a dead game/dead community situation than a MOBA one. I doubt anyone is playing smite besides veterans, but new players do still find their way to league

dev wasn't large or successful enough to financially handle the expensive and slow process to remake a game the size of Smite

POE is the largest ARPG
I love POE2 but after at LEAST 6 years of development it's still nowhere near content parity with POE and they pivoted to not being a full remake, which Smite 2 can't do.
So two studios with WAY more attention, success, and money to burn more-or-less failed to "reroll" their live service game. Smite's success was consistent, but relatively meager, and making Smite 2 became a company hail mary that they're struggling hard to complete.
Personally, I just gave up hope on Smite 2 when they reneged on the visual overhauls in order to pump out more content faster. Maybe a small thing, but seeing Hades' fucking hideous awful design just get ported with higher res cloth was enough for me to check out of the project.

From my understanding, Smite 2 was basically an exact close on Smite 1 with a marginally better engine. HiRez's big brain idea was to put Smite 2 in EA while Smite 1 still existed, while porting about 5% of the total gods. Another neat and super cool idea was that skins wouldn't transfer. Did you spend thousands of dollars on all those wacky crossover costumes! Well fuck you because they aren't coming. Do you play an obscure hero? Well fuck you because they won't be ported until 2027 at the earliest.

MOBAs have been on the decline in the West and Hirez has always been a little too based to care about China.
