Every run needs the following in order of priority: X mult/econ, mult, chips. You can reach each requirement through a lot of different ways, but that's the baseline of what you require. If you're struggling with orange stake, you should identify which element your run is missing, and how you arrived at that problem.
Taking jokers like banner, blue card, ice cream, suit mult, and hand mult is required for the first 3 antes because they allow you to get through antes without spending additional money. Hitting the interest cap is generally really important.
Once you hit the interest cap (usually in ante 2/3), you want to start extracting value from your blinds. Tarot packs for gold/lucky cards, standard packs for gold/blue/purple, take these whenever you see them. Then start throwing hands away to extract value from those resources every blind if you can, and pocket Deaths to duplicate them. Pocketing Fool, waiting for a death to show up in a pack works as well.
Once you're able to consistently extract value from every blind, you can basically never lose, since you'll generally create enough scoring/econ that you can find the requisite X mult to win.
