>>716213519 (OP)Dark reign a d total annihilation
>>716213519 (OP)Age of Mythology and it is not even close for me. MP does not count in any scenario, regardless of the title, since a MP experience cannot be objective under any circumstances.
>>716213519 (OP)AoE2 after all the DE updates outshines everything
No other rts recieved as much love and care as aoe2 got over the last 25 years
>>716213519 (OP)AoE3
Itโs a gem that filtered billions.
>>716213519 (OP)there is none
there is however a set of the best rts games
>>716213519 (OP)Honestly if you aren't playing multiplayer then none of them really stray into "great" territory, and multiplayer itself isn't very good either because matches are far too long and repetitive.
>>716213724I picked it back up to finish the campaign and spent four hours trying to get a foothold in Mortain Counterattack since I was at a disadvantage after a particularly pyrrhic victory in the previous mission. After I finished the campaign I gave this game a rest. It's exhausting to play.
I like RTS and RTT games but MAN do i suck as micro.
I own Coh2 but i canont be bothered to play it
>>716213519 (OP)I would say Starcraft 2. It has great campaigns, it has custom games and other mods (like custom campaigns) and it's known as the 1v1 ladder esports game, and with the addition of co-op mode they even added a well liked PVE compstomp mode with a wide variety of difficulty and playstyles. SC2 feels like it does everything well and should appeal to most people regardless of what you want from an RTS.
Objectively it's probably SC: Brood War, a shame that SC2 has tainted the series with trash writing. Personally I would pick C&C TS any day of the week, but it's not a perfect game.
>>716216087I feel ya. Either Im missing something special or coh campaign is tuned weirdly, but it always seem ready to whop my ass. I wouldn't say I'm -that- bad myself, cause I played RTS literally whole life and can usually wreck anything no prob.
>>716213519 (OP)You posted it. The real question is which is the best civilization
starcraft 1, I have played it since 1998 and it is still top tier. I wish the remaster never dropped, we had way better features without blizzard having a stranglehold on everything
i would like to throw factorio into the ring

>strictly follow a build order or lose
>if the enemy picked a build order that counters yours you lose
>apm bullshit
I dont get the RTS phenomenon. I loved coh2 but that doesn't have the gookclick, unlike aoe and starcraft. But if I didn't mind the gookclick then surely either aoe2 or aoe4 is the best one
>>716216087>>716218673My bro and I used to have fistfights after lan matches. Win in the game and expect to lose in real life. I think we're both psychotic.
aoe2 is pretty good, but the devs are making it worse. please buff handcannoneers to make it better.
>>716219816well you see anon, apm and build orders only matter if you're playing extremely good people. If you're playing a random mediocre player then your apm and build only have to be as effective as his. You're not playing vs the best players in the world every game
I want to replay Beasts n Bumpkins but I remember the copy on abandonware always glitches out at like Chapter 6 or 7 and I managed to find another torrent copy years ago and that had the same issue. So annoying, wish GOG would make a copy.
>>716219816>I dont get the RTS phenomenon. The spectacle of watching originally static models come to life onscreen and having them recreate battles at scale providing your potato can handle that. Add in VA, music, environmental interaction with persistent scarring and corpses to emphasize the carnage that has just played out. The real hybrid that could've grown from this is an FPS/RTS where you can jump between birds eye and ground level in an instant to really appreciate the scale from a single perspective. The closest game to this in recent memory is Bannerlord with mods. It's one thing to lay out troop movements from the sky but it becomes a whole other ballgame when you are directing the battle from a hill or getting right in there.
>>716213519 (OP)AOE2 overall but I really loved Cossacks for the huge battles. Me and my brother would put the peace time on to like 4 hours, both create giant armies then attack each other and AI etc in massive wars.
>>716219816or you can just play co-op, you have friends or brother right? Just don't be compfags and ignore those jobless faggots
>>716220621thumbnail looks like a female until I see that chin
>>716220463I had a friend that worshiped that game. He OD'd on heroin.
>>716217434starcraft2 sucks and it's for souless bugmen
>>716213519 (OP)i always like seeing these wallpaper scenes in aoe2:de.
>>716221441Building towns in this game is so fun. I always get distracted from fighting to make cool castles and shit
>>716221032ironically koreans hate starcraft 2 so it's certainly not for them. It's more for foreigners who are too noob to play brood war but love the ego trip of being "l33t rts players who are better than moba players"
Infested Planet was a lot of fun. Even beat the planetary campaign on the hardest difficulty.
>>716222961agreed, love that game. I gotta go back and play it again. Did you ever check out the starship troopers RTS that was released a year or two ago? it hits a similar itch
>>716213519 (OP)AoE2, if its jankiness didn't exist.
>>716222228My brother used to love making the bases, so he would ally and create our town halls together, he would create all the farming/walls/gates etc and I would create the army for us and do all the exploring/fighting.
>>716223065Anons recommend that a lot when I mention IP. I'm not sure my laptop can run it, tho.
>>716213519 (OP)Pic related is the best, but I've only played like 4 RTS games
>>716223242if it helps I have a pc from 2015 that runs it fine. Anyways you can just torrent and test the waters if you get bored
>>716213519 (OP)It depends on what you're looking for.
If you want a singleplayer/co-op game then picrel is a good contender.
>>716213519 (OP)halo wars if we're talking on consoles
>>716219440Murican edukayshun shines from that one
>>716215783Brood War is better in every way.
>>716228652Fighting with pathfinding isn't better in any way
>>716228421how was halo wars 2 anyways? I played the first but I could never get the second one working on my pc. I remember that total biscuit said it was good, but at that point everyone was playing sc2
Is there one with modern technology?
>>716213519 (OP)Rise of Nations has the best fondations from a gameplay perspective.
I'm still pissed they shut it down. Literally the best RTS ever.
>>716232263It would be good if it had no obnoxious battle music. The regular OST is great but the fight music is ass. Love everything else about it except the p2w

>>716213519 (OP)for PVP, it's AoE2DE
for compstomps and campaigns, there are many that can compete
now go try out warlocked you flaming faggots
>>716215562Dogshit pathing and projectile mechanics
>>716232443Company of Heroes, although you won't win the campaign levels by just turtling.
>>716233206Turtling doesn't work in Sins of a Solar Empire. It's easy to get behind if you turtle.
>>716233391>It's easy to get behind if you turtleIt does when you run fiefdom style maps where every empire is separated by about 2 minutes worth of phase jumping between stars. Now you can lock down your one entry point with four starbases, 28 squadrons of strikecraft and roaming fleets to intercept the stragglers. Easy enough to cook up one of these maps on your own unlike the second game that wants you to do it via external dev tools.
>>716222454oh, is that how the suicidal bugmen of korea are coping these days?
>>716233587>It's easy to get behind if you turtleIt does when you run fiefdom style maps where every empire is separated by about 2 minutes worth of phase jumping between stars. Easy enough to cook up one of these maps on your own unlike the second game that wants you to do it via external dev tools. It only really becomes an issue when you have eight player games because the AI likes to slow everything down by shitting out carriers and front loading their forces with strikecraft spam in every fight. Some mods like Maelstrom run surprisingly well outside of a few titans that become nigh unkilliable once they reach level 10. And others like E4X simply crash once you pass the three hour threshold because 32bit era vidya.
We need a remaster of Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge, Generals, Zero Hour, Battle of Middle Earth 1&2, KKND Krossfire 1&2, World in Conflict, Tiberian Sun, Firestorm, Empire at War and Empire Earth 1-3
>>716213519 (OP)Warcraft 3 TFT feels to me like the perfect package and on top of that it's insanely fun. I think it's probably the best RTS.
Having said that, Red Alert 2 and Tib Sun are the RTS games that I enjoyed the absolute most.
>>716230559I hope this game stay relevant, best thatโs come out recently imo.
>>716232443This
>>716222961 is all about mowing down aliens by the hundreds and gradually inching forward.
>>716234369>Generals, Zero Hour,These two got their source codes dumped a while back for free so you might need to wait a bit for that. Besides the Dawn of War Demaster is meant to drop this time next month providing they fixed up the audio by then. We'll see how that one pans out and whether it kickstarts a wider trend. Companies sifting through their backlogs looking for old shit to resell because their new stuff just doesn't cut it anymore.
while not the best shout out to 0 A.D. for being free and available on linux
>>716213519 (OP)Ones with the most memorable campaigns. So it's either Homeworld or World in Conflict for me.
I find AoE2 too hard to read, units all look the same.
My vote goes for World in Conflict or Company of Heroes 1.
Never could get into AoE2. The singleplayer was boring and multiplayer is crazy difficult. And of course it had to become the only RTS that matters.
>>716235728it's a cool game in that it has so much micro to do with its economics (mainly driving food to your townhall somehow). SC1 has it now with mineral boosting too
Anyone know what games allow a slow war of attrition on higher difficulties where you progressively make barracks and defensive capabilities to move the line forwars - preferably ones where you collect resources and they dont run out for the most part
For me it would be AOE2, Rise of nations and cossacks 3
In cossacks 3 i loved making slow moving infantry pushes with a continuous line of them to break through the enemies on higher difficulty. Had so much fun
dont really like the supreme commander type of games
>>716235832sounds exactly like creeper world
>>716235832Dawn of War UA when you run it with AI. Two carry the battle while you follow behind setting up checkpoints while supporting them with rolling artillery and strafing runs.
>>716215562Good paypiggy, pay up for constant "content" and "balancing" updates!
>>716235407I remember looking at this game like 10 years ago. It was in-dev. It looks pretty much the same today, but still in-dev.
Not a bad game btw
>>716237305Paying? The updates are free
>>716234756I'm actually surprised Relic came back for 40k, they were pretty public on how they despised this franchise and preferred Company of Heroes.
>>716238030It has a bunch of DLCs. Is that not "content"?
>>716235585If I want to get in to homeworld, should I play the original or is the remaster done well?
>>716220812Based list right here. I would love to see a Supreme Commander 3.
AoM campaign is full with such unfiltered kino momemts like pic rel. Even the Titans expansion, where you fight off automatas in Atlantis and you noticed the layout is the same as when you settled it for the 2nd mission.
>>716219562>>716220812Correct
>>716238453After the second one, I don't know if I want a third.
>>716219440The game doesn't really take sides, and for a conflict that happened a thousand years ago I think thats a pretty fair position to have.
I'll accept any of the following
>Aoe2
>starcraft brood war
>RA2
>WC3
>Supreme Commander
>>716219440Wait till you see AoE2 Mongols and Huns campaigns. 8 years old me learned proper terror tactics with those.
>>716237519>mostly identical civs and campaigns>scarce resources force you to be very frugal and slow>all these castle age scenarios where rams are the only anti-buidling weapon and there's a ton of defenses to razeI forced myself to at least beat the Mongol campaign, and after that I was done. Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds (basically an AoE2 mod) was more fun for me because factions were more defined, combat was more intense since the bulk of your army was made up of expendable trash units, and even the game's mangonel equivalent was better because it was actually useful for sieging enemy defenses.
>>716238243Every other RTS has had 0 content updates too. At least you have the option to pick it up if you really wanted the campaigns + civs.
>>716239667I really wonder when we lost the sense for games that are simply finished.
I have been playing AoE2 for 25 years, it never needed constant content updates.
