Absurd comment. Outside of the camera, Mario 64 still has more fluid and enjoyable movement than most games on the market today.

I will never understand why people try to compare crash to mario64 when Spyro is a more direct comparison when both spyro and mario are more adventure than platformer.

It's because they were released about same time and game magazines pitted those against each other kinda

Fuck no, even Mario 64's movement feels like ass. You turn like a boat, ricochet off walls like a bouncy ball, slope physics are nonsensical, literal invisible walls are scattered throughout levels. Not to mention you have like a dozen different jump variants when all you want is a fucking camera that is actually looking where you're going instead of shoved up Mario's asshole. Levels are so basic and boring, usually just a few platforms and enemies just haphazardly slapped down with no sense of flow or intentional design, and it's padded to all hell, requiring you to retread each stage seven fucking times.

Good tech demo maybe, horrendous game

people only think mario 64 aged poorly because they played it on a shitty modern system with 15 frames of input lag

No, dumbfuck, it plays like garbage on original hardware. Even if you fix the shit camera, get a romhack for stars booting you out, the physics are still ass and the level design is extremely dull.

This. When people say it has "good movement" they mean it has dogshit, nonsensical physics that are totally nonsensical and not remotely realistic or satisfying. Mario controls more like a vehicle than a human, yet he bounces hard off walls even at low speed.

He's also trying to use Banjo-Kazooie.
Honestly I only come to his threads solely because his arguments about why Mario 64 is a bad game make me laugh, specially when he posts his pasta.

I only show up to call OP gay for continuing on with this multi year tantrum about being told Mario 64 isn't a good game and being so unequipped to actually argue against that he's spent literal years trying to pretend to be a fan of a franchise that hasn't gotten a new game in 20, 7, or 5 years.

Addendum: I'm a retard, Nuts and Bolts was 2008 rather than a launch title for the 360, my point mostly still stands.

I always thought Crash was more engaging to play. Because it plays like an obstacle course where youโ€™re trying avoid dying. Never enjoyed the more open area collectathon style games

It's probably how it was viewed at the time. I mean something like doom was called a lot of weird stuff before "fps" became a genre

Road to Nowhere and The High Road are legitimately the most dogshit level ever created, so much so the guy who made Road to Nowhere couldn't beat it and they kept it in anyway

The difficulty makes it fun and memorable. I remember when the remakes came out people started calling it the Dark Souls of platformers. If Crash ever got revived it should lean into that. With lots of goofy Crash death animations.

The only thing people whinged about with Crash 4 was the hidden boxes and Tawna being woke. You can do away with hidden offscreen boxes and still have the game be difficult.
