The game requires that you sit behind cover at that part. Why didn't the person playing realize that after getting killed by a scripted cutscene? Are they stupid (rhetorical)?

He does at 38 seconds, if you shoot the grenade it explodes and kills you. After this part there's a scripted sequence where you shoot the grenade and kill the boss, but outside of that it just instakills

Is this another "Max Payne BAD" thread by the Max Payne schizo who has posted ~thirty threads over the past few weeks?
I did have some trouble at that final "boss", there's a shitload of enemies at once and you're also trying to deal with his grenades, but jumping around in the open like a retard obviously wasn't the way to solve it.
