It's the best for me
It is haunting and feels good to revisit. There's a lot of secrets that you can discover on each run and there's a lot of variety in builds, and the most "tactical" as in it's not just rollspamming around.

While it's definitely rougher around the edges than every other Fromslop game, most of the hate towards it seems to stem from:
>lingering disappointment because it doesn't look how it was advertised
>the fact that you can't run past the enemies without them chasing and killing you like you can in every other souls game

A completely unnecessary rerelease that offers no improvements over the vanilla experience. Also the rendering is somehow worse, with the tonemapping causing everything to look overexposed.

its ugly and the level design is shit. lore also seems bad but i'm not that read up on that nonsense. so all you have left are a bunch of poorly designed bosses to run to and items to collect (which appeals to some autistically minded people who think more = better)
at the very least it doesnt have any of those spastic post-bloodborne enemies that from have been putting in their games since (as far as i can remember). although poorly executed i think the slower pace of the combat has appeal compared to what the games have become now.

honestly my brain was so numb while playing these games & really honestly couldnt tell the difference at this moment. i even 100%d the 1st game. all i felt was disappointment about how much they fucked the atmosphere & immersion/lighting up. all i remember is the petrified statues being put in literal, 'lol remember this area?, fuck you, get a branch'

BEST FUCKING GAME EVER!!
Its the only non roll slop you have to utilize your shit and death actzally has stakes.
All the while retaining the unique world like you do in 1.
Perfect game handsdown.

It's a good game but it's the least of the souls series. But what>>716246247 says has merit. It's very haunting in certain areas and it a arguably has the deepest story because it's so vague. Still don't know what it's about or what kingship and the thrones are supposed to represent.
One anon said it's a bad Dark souls game, but a great kings field game and that seems apt to me.

It's a strictly worse version of vanilla DS2 + DLC. The changes it makes to the base games world design and DLC unlocking feels like utter shit and it actively disuades me from replaying the game anymore.

It's an improvement to the world design and makes the base game feel more like an adventure.

I mean I liked it BUT

They had the opportunity to go back and *fix* whatever they wanted with the game! Ask yourself how often that happens in mainstream big studio releases? At best you'll get a dogshit remake 10 years later outsourced to some cardboard box sweat shop. Here (to my knowledge) it was people from the same team.

They made some stuff better, but so many glaring issues still exist. SM being a dogshit system. The base non-DLC content having bad scaling and being too easy past midgame. Bosses being too easy. Dogshit lighting and texture work in some areas. Some of the more egregious zone transitions like the elevator into volcano that ragebait retards keep posting here. I'm sure they knew about these things, and I'm sure many were easy enough to fix.

With all that in mind, I think SOTFS was a missed opportunity.
