They had the opportunity to go back and *fix* whatever they wanted with the game! Ask yourself how often that happens in mainstream big studio releases? At best you'll get a dogshit remake 10 years later outsourced to some cardboard box sweat shop. Here (to my knowledge) it was people from the same team.
They made some stuff better, but so many glaring issues still exist. SM being a dogshit system. The base non-DLC content having bad scaling and being too easy past midgame. Bosses being too easy. Dogshit lighting and texture work in some areas. Some of the more egregious zone transitions like the elevator into volcano that ragebait retards keep posting here. I'm sure they knew about these things, and I'm sure many were easy enough to fix.
With all that in mind, I think SOTFS was a missed opportunity.
