Gaming isn't as fun as it used to be. I mainly just play the same two or three games. They're quick to install, work on anything and are ol' reliable.
Whenever I see the game is 100GB to install I just don't bother. I admit I'm a bit of a AAA only gamer and rather not install sketchy indieware viruses. I know AAA sucks now and indies is where it's at.
People want more value out of their 70 dollars os they want games to be bigger. Pushes them towards more slop content and open world. It's longer so it's better? A campaign has to take 30-40 hours now to be seen as worth it.
Don't act liek gamers are blameless on this.

I know, I got several of these but it just feels like a waste of space these bloated games and the load times for HDDs are abysmal. HDDs and SSDs haven't gotten cheaper than they were 5 years ago either.

Well, yea. You're not gonna have fun if you exclusively only look in the AAA space. Indie and AA is the only place where video games are actually made while AAA has become a investor's portfolio, quite literally.
