they're gonna announce that they've figured out how to shit out a Fo76esque multiplayer ontop of it and nomansky the shit out of it

It's over.

I understand why they aren't eager to make one, seeing how the first DLC barely moved the needle at all.

I can't believe it was trash even by Bethesda standards. I actually would have played mediocre Fallout in space but the space part actually gets in the way. From what I've seen anyway.

its my understanding the first dlc for starfield was utter shit but as long as eso and 76 print money they can keep trying save starfield.

"you can do anything" space games are almost always total failures why do devs keep doing them

Starfield really embodied how boring space is. It's set in a time where it's not hard to get anywhere, but also none of the planets are actually populated.
The excitement of space in the modern era is how hard it is to get there, which makes Kerbal Space Program one of the most interesting ones really. In a game with FTL travel, I want it to be like a million years in the future where there are a ton of planets terraformed and populated. Even if we can't explore the whole thing.

You can tell bethesda gave up on it cause they even stopped paying the shills.

At this point we'll probably see Starfield 2 before TES6

How did it wind up being so boring? Honest to god question, someone please enlighten me how the end product basically puts me to sleep?

They chose to do this over The Elder Scrolls 6.

I'll never forgive Bethesda.

Biggest mistake nearly all space games make with "you can do anything" is making YOU do all the things.
You should have a fleet of ships, crew and robots and automation systems at your command, collecting, transporting and assembling shit for you. That allows you to feel like a big boss captain with a lot of shit to take care of in space.
The lone starship role is very unfun when you're actually in space because you're just a space trucker with no navigation other than warping to adjacent zones.

its still $130, runs like shit and has constant loading screens, so no.
make the game $10 on Steam and run flawlessly on a 1060ti and i'll consider pirating it

>why do devs keep doing them
Because they keep trying to copy picrel's 23 years of success while forgetting to do any of the things that make it good at what it does.

>is making YOU do all the things.
This.
In Space Engineers you can set up scripts in automated ships to fly around hauling shit, mining shit and protecting you from shit automatically leaving you safe to fuck around with making cool shit for fun.
In Eve you can pay other people to do the boring shit for you that you dont want to do.
in X3/X4 you have a fleet of AI ships doing that shit for you.

Starfield is full of needless busywork that ultimately achieves nothing leaving you feel bored and empty.

Rogue Trader was a more engaging space rpg.

???
It was $100 for 3 day early access and the Shattered Space DLC packed in. Base game isn't $100 and definitely not $130.

I love lording over my normalfag friends how right I was that the game was a pile of dogshit.

Because they took the standard Bethesda game formula(shit) and spread it out over a gorillion planets, so it just ended up being empty and full of loading screens.

Bad worldbuilding, bad game design, bad art direction, bad soundtrack, what else can you expect from the makers of Fallout 4?

player count has tripled to 32k online every night since Covid.
koreans are selling it off because the Eve franchise side projects keep flopping because no-one wants them. PA bought CCP buying into the NFT phone game scam that was the hot thing 3 years ago.
game itself is doing great and there's no other game on the market that does the open world cutthroat PVP anywhere 'lose all your shit when you die' thing as well as Eve does.

There's always contrarians who fixate on games obsessively, and others who are too proud to admit they bought a crappy game. Others are too deep in the Bethesda cult to let the game die.

fundamental design issues from the very concept
if bethesda wanted to recycle their radiant bullshit and basic combat, then they shouldn't have gone with """nasapunk""", because what sort of fucking explorer just kills animals and outlaws, that's a job for flash gordon
if bethesda wanted a gritty and grungy space setting, they shouldn't have gone with space magic and trivial travel, as that makes planets and their denizens utterly irrelevant
problem infinite planets filled with the same dozen elements needs no elaboration
loading screen space flight and pointless basebuilding and the regular level-based malarkey are cherries abundantly put on top
