This final battle feels like the real deal. It's not a glorified running away from Bowser level like 3D World, or a glorified thematic finish like Zelda botw/totk and Mario Odyssey, with a fight that ends in like 3 hits.

How you defeat k.rool is entirely dependent on what you learned throughout the game, and your mastery of the bananza transformations.

The game doesn't directly tell you to punch his cannon balls at him, or to use elephant to suck up the goop and throw shit back into his gun, or slow down time with snake to get more hits in.

It seems the mario devs understand boss fights a bit more now. If you payed attention, the 100% fury bowser fight has a very similar structure to it. I hope the next 3D mario will have a satisfying finale on this games level. Odyssey Bowser was a temu final boss in production value.

no i just like to argue. i think arguing is fun. i definitely feel void kong's fights are the best fights in the game, the only fights that are actually interesting, and if forced to argue i may have to develop this thesis and create good reasoning. so there is a benefit to arguing here.

it's not that k rools fight is terrible, it just does feel a lot like bowser in odyssey to me. im waiting for him to do something and then pressing y to put him in a downed phase. at least with void kong, there is a sense i am not waiting, the ability to cycle void kong is on me. the same way the other fights in the game can feel controlled mostly by you rather than the enemy. void kong is this too, except you have to respect him, you cannot one cycle him and you have to deal with his patterns.

k rool is very much similar to a 3d mario bowser fight in that it feels dominated by waiting around for him, which can feel a bit boring personally cuz his attacks are more easily dealt with than void kong, who just has more hitboxes going off all the time.

From a technical stand point Rot King is a disgrace.
Though K. Rool is a lot more reactive, Void Kong is simply too easy to just throw shit at for most of the fight. His shield phase is neat, but since you can easily just jump over the walls it ends up as kinda nothing.
Better on Switch 3, I'm sure.

Why was he at the end of the game? I haven't played it, but from what I've read it sounds like a pretty low effort attempt at fanservice. Like imagine in Star Fox Assault if it turned out the real final antagonist was Borg Andross.

The entire finale of the game is the devs showing you how the DKC enemies were everywhere the entire time, how NPCs talked about K.Rool etc.
He's not just slapped in at the end as fanservice, the Kremling Krew was planned from the very beginning.

Metroid doesn't count. It is the ONE franchise that Nintendo aims at a slightly older audience. Bananza is made by the Odyssey team and that game's "final boss" was actually babby tier. This was a huge step up.

I used snake to jump the gun suck in first phase but I threw it in the cannon for the rot fight. I forgot slow-down was a feature for snake, I barely ever used it. Used all the other forms though, even zebra to close distances.

Raven Beak is still way better and easily clears every other modern Nintendo boss. I did appreciate how K Rool was finally an actual boss in the game where all the others went down in 30 seconds.

the hidden final boss of that game was hard as fuck, genuinely souls level, and equally as satisfying, I was shocked it came from a Kirby game. Although I later found out that you can level up some abilities further than the regular 3 levels so that porbably would have made it easier.

Odyssey had a really hype ending sequence but the final bowser fight was kinda lame. Break Free or whatever it was called was a cool song and capturing Bowser was nice. Bananza’s is better in every way though.

Great game, but Bananza has more creative level design and better movement. Bananas are better than Moons as well since they function as upgrades and not just an arbitrary progression block.
