Don't know if tecmo super bowl is the greatest sports game of all time, but it should be really damn close.
It even has a dedicated community that enabled online matches and updates the stats and names of the players and the teams.

i dont know about all time but Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 and Super Baseball 2020 were pretty damn fun. the electric crack of the bat in 2020 when you really get a good hit lives in my ears rent free. plus you get a bonus for jumping to catch balls in both tits and points.
