The ending was so bad they had to correct it in the anime. Got rid of the part where Armin thanked Erin for the genocide and making the carpet bombing of Paradis happening a long time in the future instead of feeling like they did it in a few decades which makes that scene where it seems like Marleyan's learned their lesson was BS. Yes, it's a story of how war is perpetual and nothing really changes given enough time but it was told so poorly that it made Floch the reasonable one in all this because all his claims were proven true. You aren't suppose to make the suppose crazy one in the faction be right in the end. The series was a big ball of wasted potential.

It was a flawed premise no matter what. Paradis was right to fight for their own survival because everybody wanted them dead but on the flip side the Marleyan's are also correct because the people are of Paradis are literal walking nukes that could go off at any time for any reason and kill everyone and they kinda already did that thousands of years ago. It's kind of hard to feel bad for them when they're just monsters.
