1 through 5 are varying degrees of good and great. 4 is the best in the series IMO. 6 was a let down, but 7 addressed a lot of (but not all) of the problems. The move to 3D was a shame but I hope they can find their path with it.
I actually think they've been doing much better with their side projects and smaller games in recent years. The Labyrinth games, Liar Princess and Void Terrarium 1 and 2 were all fantastic IMO.
Shame about the Disgaea 7 Complete release being not only Switch 2 only but also game key card. I'm usually a big enough fan of the series to buy these games multiple times like that, but even I'm not interested in buying a game key card limited edition for $100+.

Last Disgaea game I played was 3, 2 was my favorite. I'm suprised to see it keeps going as series.
Which number is it now and is any of the new ones really good to try out?

I was done with the series after 5 I disliked the story and most of the characters, gameplay was good tho, 2 is still my favorite.
Like this >>716294370 anon said their side projects are much better but in truth disgaea still exist to get funds for the games they actually want to make.
I think this is also the reason they switched to 3d, so they can easily recycle shit.
The muscle oni lady from seven was good.
I was really looking forward to the new Phantom Brave, but everyone says it's bad and full of bugs. Kind of a shame, I was going to pick it up but now I'm waiting for a discount and to see if anything gets fixed.
